5.      Kick recovery
a.      When missing with the left kick bring it back as a knee block

                        Punching strategies specific to MMA
1.      Throw straight punches!
a.       Against a grappler throw straight punches to the chest area.
2.      To land a punch:
a.      Fake a kick
b.      Fake a takedown to land a punch.
 
                        How to close the gap from striking to clinching
1.      Three timings to close the gap
a.       Before
                              i.      Pin both arms, knee, clinch, knee
                              ii.      Fake high, go low
                              iii.      Fake low, go high
b.      During
                              i.      Slip punch into double
                              ii.      Scoop jab, scoop rear hand, double underhook
                              iii.      Parry jab, tap rear hand, grab neck, clinch knees
c.       After
                              i.      Follow strike back, double arm tap to clinch
                              ii.      Knee block into ankle tackle
                              iii.      Duck hook to clinch
 
                        Use knee strikes from the clinch without being taken down
1.      Control head
2.      Forearms levered against clavicles
3.      Hips back
4.      Pick selective targets
5.      Block punches by using elbow pressure on shoulders
 
 
                        Quick and effective takedowns
1.      Snap down from thai-clinch to sprawl
2.      Snap down from thai-clinch to guillotine, hook under arm and spin opponent down to back, neck crank
3.      Arm drag, cut side-ways, fold hip
 
 
                        How to maximize striking offense and defense on the ground
1.      Offense
a.       Mount
                              i.      Trap arms
                              ii.      Face grinding
b.      Guard
                              i.      Pin arms, slide punch in, back to pin arms
                              ii.      Elbow thighs
2.      Defense
a.       Mount
                              i.      Cover face, hug body, bump and roll when crossfaced
                              ii.      Bump hip, leg escape to guard
b.      Guard
                              i.      Hold head, cover punch, elbow
                              ii.      Use knees on biceps to face kicks

Thai-clinch Defense
1.      Hands on hips
2.      Hand on stomach
3.      Wedge
4.      Wedge elbow up
5.      Reach under and across to grab elbow, pull it across, clinch
6.      Scoop knee, grab far hip, lift and dump
