  • Questions for Grappling School Owners and Instructors Part 1

    Hello Everyone,

I have my own school and I feel it is doing well. However I also feel it can do much better. So I would like to possibly get some insight from those who own there own school and from instructors (or anyone) also who knows the answers to these questions and would like to share the information.

What I am going to do is, I'm going to compile all of the answers I get into one pdf file and for anyone who helps with the questions, I will e-mail you the file. I'm sure it can help all of you also.

If you would like to help and also like to get the answers from everyone who replies or submits them to me, you can send me an e-mail at jasculs@gmail.com with the answers instead, this way your answers won't be posted publicly if you choose for them not to be.

I think this is a great way for all BJJ school owners to learn from each other and grow by sharing information to important questions that can help each other. If you have questions that you would like answered please e-mail me at jasculs@gmail.com with them to me or ask them here and I will add them to the other parts of the questions I may have. There will be multiple parts because I'm sure I will come up with more questions.

    Now for some questions:

    * Do you use a billing company?

    * Do you require your students to sign an agreement? If so, what's the minimum term they have to sign?

    * Do you give them a cash option?

    * Do you take attendance? If so, how do you take attendance?

    * Do you use tracking software? If so, what software do you use?

    * Do you teach takedown during your grappling classes, or do you teach takedowns as a separate class?

    * Do you do live takedown sparring during class? If so, do you make everyone do the live takedown portion, or do you give them the option?

    * If you have an injury is it more from the warm-up/conditioning, grappling on the ground, takedowns, or other?

    * Do you offer basics classes for new students that are separate from your regular classes?

    * Do you require your new students to attend basics classes only before they can attend the regular/advanced classes? Can they also attend the regular/advanced classes if they are not a certain level? When do you allow the students to attend the regular/advanced classes?

Please send me a also if you would like to receive the pdf file of all of the answers of the questions I asked. Once I have the document done I will e-mail it to you.

Ok here is the status...So far 26 people have gotten back to me answering all of the questions...I am up to 12 pages of information in regards to these questions. The response has be great so far.

As soon as the answers for these questions start to slow down I will then post the next round of questions for everyone. I really think this will be helpful to all school owners out there at least to get an idea of what others in our industry are doing or working towards.

The best way for us to grow is to work together in my opinion. Only for school owners who participate I will send you a the document.

    Thanks again,
    Jason
