If you are teaching a class as a subcontractor at an established gym, do you still need to get your own insurance or is theirs enough?

I don't know the answer but it would help to draw up a waiver form for everyone to sign.

Both the preceeding posts are good advise. However, in most cases, the gym or business you are teaching out of will have you covered on their insurance. We taught out of a gymnasics academy for several years. Their policy covered us for our normal classes. We did have to go through the company to get special insurance for a tournament. If I remember correctly it was about $400.00. I also taught self defense classes at a gym for a while. As long as they were only self defense classes, I was covered. however, when I attempted to move my dojo into the facility, the insurance wouldn't cover me.

Always, always, ALWAYS, have your students sign a waiver. In some states they don't do a lot of good and there are loop holes to get around them if they seriously want to file suite on you. But have them sign one anyway. You can never have too much protection.

Sit down and talk to the owners of the gym you are teaching out of. Ask them if you are covered and how much coverage you have.

      Hope this helped.

I'm actually not going to be a contractor but an employee, which makes things a lot easier for me. I just had to get certified under an organization their insurance covered, because they did not recognize the certs I had. So it's all good.

Glad to hear that. I'm sure the gym makes it's customers sign a waiver. Make sure that it covers you as well. And GOOD LUCK!

I think every person whether he is running business or working as an employee, he needs insurance policy. As it is just like an investment which ensures your better future.
