  • Randy wins again

    Hi everyone,

I just got the good news from Sifu Burton who stated that Randy just recently won the heavyweight UFC! Is there anyone who actually saw his fights and who can give us some feedback here.

Looking forward to all the fighting reviews!

    Kindest regards
    Morné

    I've seen it!

    Hello Morn,

I have indeed seen the fights.
I really like Pride much more than UFC mostly due to the fact that ground and pound or"stall"
seems to be the order of the day in the UFC. Pride IMHO has much more skilled fighters.

But this UFC had some good lessons in it. For example the John Lewis fight. What do we teach beginners on day one when they learn to jab? Return it on a straight line don't drop or "drag" the jab back. One of the most basic boxing counters is to follow it back with a right hand.

Well in the lewis fight, he was dragging his jab back and BAM his opponant blasted him with a right hand cross and knocked him out cold! Good lesson!

About Randys fight, it was cool to see him working the clinch and actually doing what we practice. He definitly owned the clinch IMO and at times seemed to confuse Randallman.

    The way I seen it:

    Round one:
Kevins round IMO, he seemed the better puncher and took Randy down no problem. But Randy put him in the gaurd. IMO Randy needs a more active gaurd, needs to move his hips more as he tends to lay flat on his back (After the fight, Randy admited to needing more work from his back) Randy did get on an arm bar, but telegraphed it and Kevin grabbed his own hand and countered it after a brief fight (Randy let go and moved on...) Keving did typical ground and pound not trying to pass just stack and smack. Randy did a fine job of keeping close and keeping away to make most of Randallmans arm punches miss or land with no real damage.

I gave that round to Kevin due to the pressure, takedowns and punches that landed.

    Round two:

More of the same actually, Kevin controlled, rocked Randy with some stand up punching (Randy does have a "beard"!) Takedown, ground and pound. To be fair, it seemed like Kevins lack of knowledge on how to pass the gaurd contributed to the outcome which was ineffective offense from inside the gaurd.

Once again, I'd have to give it to Kevin due to more offense and controlling the flow of the fight.

    Round three:

Randy's round all the way! From total control in the clinch to RANDY doing the takedown this time, to Randy controlling the ground. After Randy tied him up he worked knees and punches controlled the balance and finally took Kevin down with an inside hooking sweep. Once in Kevin's gaurd, kevin's lack of training in this position really was evident!

When Kevin was in Randy's gaurd, randy controlled the distance pulling him close or keeping him away, but Kevin was lost! Randy blasted him over and over with bombs. Then Randy passed the gaurd, got full top mount and that was it! Kevin just layed there throwing his hands up and trying to move his head...
Result? Randy landed almost at will. Big John seen that Kevin had no answer and was going to just lay there and take a beating, so he stepped in and stopped it. Randy was declared the winner!

Best part was after the fight when both fighters showed TRUE class, Kevin lifted Randy high in the air, then Kevin himself put the belt on Randy. Randy was very humble in victory. Kevin was very mature in his defeat. A good showing all around by these two Warriors!

I belive Randy is on the up! With his open mind and disipline and great attitude, he will bring even more to the table, a great Champion!
