As a new member of the JKDU family, I would like to start by saying how truely lucky I feel to be able to train at our school. I am constantly amazed by the fact that the only thing that exceeds the intensity of training is the friendlyness and positive attitude that exists there.
I train outside the school with a great training partner who has decided to join JKDU himself. While his hand skills (boxing backround) are very impressive and far superior to mine, he has no backround in anything else, only a strong desire to grow and improve.
I'm wanting to concentrate on his closing techniques and movement, and expand on the linear and lateral footwork he already has, without taking him down a road to less effective techniques, as his focus is solely on self defense.
I understand that trapping and gunting are not worked at JKDU, and agree completely with the reason why. Are there any drills that I can show him that utelize these "ideas" in a more realistic way with a resisting opponent while concentrating on footwork at angles and changing ranges?
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
