BURTON RICHARDSON, one of the world’s foremost coaches and practitioners in Knife fighting, stick fighting (original Dog Brother), street kick boxing, clinch, Submission wrestling & Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu will be visiting South Africa at the end of October 2003 to conduct training seminars and to do personal training with Morné Swanepoel, President Jeet Kune Do Unlimited South Africa.
Burton is Morné’s personal coach and mentor. The two of them have spent many years of training and searching for the truth in functional and realistic street combat. Burton has studied full contact stick fighting under the infamous “Dog Brothers†and has adopted the name of “Lucky Dog†(The Dog Brothers resurfaced again recently and are noted for their underground, full contact stick fighting matches) The demand for functional and realistic training is rapidly on the increase as more and more people are moving away from the traditional, classical forms of Martial Arts.
For further information on Burton Richardson, check out his website at www.jkdunlimited.com or check his monthly column out in the inside Kung Fu magazine.
What you can expect to be exposed to and background of JKD Unlimited:
* Weaponry : A huge part is drawn from the Filipino Martial Arts, with a few elements from Jun Fan Gung Fu, Silat and Zulu Stick Fighting. Most of the base was learnt from Dan Inosanto. Burton also had extensive training with the Kali Ilustrisimo group in Manila. Tatang Ilustrisimo, Tony Diego and Christopher Ricketts also influenced Burton's studies. All this would have been lost if Burton didn't expose himself to Eric Knaus from the Dog Brothers.
* KickBoxing : Burton draws from various 'styles' here. Four main influences are Jun Fan Kick Boxing, Muay Thai and Savate (French Kick Boxing)and Western Boxing
* Clinch : Here the emphasis is on a combination of Western Boxing, Muay Thai, Greco Roman Wrestling, free Style Wrestling, Judo and a No rules flavor of Kali and Silat.
* Ground: Mainly Brazilian JiuJitsu with strong influence of freestyle wrestling, Submission Wrestling and Shoot fighting.
This is the basic outline from where we draw from. The most important difference between Burton Richardson's Jeet Kune Do unlimited and other methods is our training methods and sparring!
Book your place now to experience why Burton is known as one of the leading Mixed Martial Arts Coaches in the World today!
BURTON will be conducting seminars in both Johannesburg and Durban.
