  • little to no effect

Ever sparred with a 'chunkier' guy or maybe even a downright fat guy? It seems that blows to the body do not seem to be as effective and have little to no effect. Why is that? Is the extra fat providing a cushioning effect or something?

    yup
my cousin is 6'2" and nearly 400lbs and is a monster to deal with. You can punch him in the gut and it would have little effect except maybe tickle him. You gotta aim a little higher like the sternum or around the side where the ribs are at cause they don't get covered with as much fat. With guys like him you gotta get creative.

It depends on the relative size difference and how you strike him. Don't waste punches on his body; kick his thighs inside and out and keep moving. When he starts to drop his hands, then start boxing or kick high. Slip his punches and enter the clinch where you can land knees.

dont know if it would be a good idea to clinch with a 400 lb guy. I just dont see it working out for many people. I would just keep with the low kicks and maybe trysome push kicks as well.

Soften him up a bit then go for some good punches.

I thought we were talking about a 50 lb weight difference, not a 200 lb one. But you're right, don't clinch someone who is 200+ lbs heavier!
