If you're just a recreational boxer, then you might walk out of sparring with an occasionall black eye, bruised rib or nose bleed but nothing should be broken and you shouldn't be getting KOd.

Kickboxing vs. Boxing
It doesn't matter. All that matters is how much you put into it. If you put enough work into either, you will be a hard mother fucker in the streets. A 160 lb. proffessional kickboxer got into a street confrentation with a guy that was like 260 just about a month ago. The kickboxer knocked him out. He used three punches, no kicks.

Boxing rocks, I tried it for about 7 months. The only reason I stoped was my coach was trying to make me into a robot at first. I went with it for the first 5 months then talked to him about it, I explained I wasn't there to be a competive boxer, just to get better with my hands. He just couldn't understand and wouldn't change, so I dropped him. Do it you'll have a great time with it.

I watched the rocky series again a little bit ago as well. I noticed something kinda funny, I always thought that in the movies rocky was a good boxer. But he sucked, he could just take a beating well and hit hard. He had no footwork and almost no defense. It wasnt till the 3rd movie when he got knocked the **** out by Mr. T that apollo had to show him footwork.
Good movies I guess, but on topic. I would say go with kickboxing first and see what its like. Many gyms focus more on the boxing part first and then throw kicking into it. IMO go with kickboxing, becuase if its a good gym you will learn to box and kick at the same time. Your hands are only a quarter of your arsenal remember.

Rocky 4 tops it off when he's training in that barn with the slip rope. MAN that was frinckin awesome! Bobbing and weaving like its a natural instinct. I heard Tyson had this invention that Cus made for him that would swing around and hit him. I guess it spun around and Tyson had to bob and weave while throwing 1,2 to the body on his way in and finish with hooks and uppercuts. Do you know what I'm talking about?

P.S. It was very arrogant of that boxing coach to state that Boxing is the best for the street. Boxing is great for punching range. What about kicking range? Trapping/clinching range? Grappling/wrestling range?
Bottom line: Learn to fight in ALL ranges!

[QUOTE=Tom Yum]Good call on Rocky 3. In Rocky 1, coach Mickey tells him that he fights like Rocky Marciano, just walks straight in and starts trading hard punches.

P.S. fo2sh, I just read your PM and have sent a reply to you.
I've had some computer problems these days, so if you don't get my reply, I'll say that since there is no Muay Thai near your area, Kickboxing is o-kay.
