Any of you guys want to offer a newbie some pointers on how to train slipping and punching? If not, how about a web page that has some good info on it? Getting pretty old eating nasty leather and no one at the gym has the time of day for me because I'm not training for any reason other than fitness.

Training for fitness
Well Pal, you don't really need to be eating leather if all you're training for is fitness. Everything but the sparring is more then a good enough excersize, the sparring is just testing your progress and putting things together, but if you just wanna get fit you don't need to put the skills together. But if you insist, a slip bag, I'd imagine, works good. I mean it has one purpose, and that is to make you better at slipping punches, lol, it damn well better be good at that. Also standing with someone and having em throw a jab and slipping it, over and over, and same with right crosses, and bobbing and weaving hooks, will help you build muscle memory for those things

ive tried the maize bag idea but there isnt much length of string betwen the teniis ball and the door frame, it seems silly to be dodging it when its going back and forth so quickly and regularly...
And Im having some trouble with my slipping, I learnt slips in one lesson of chinese kickboxing, how much of it is head motion, how much is body motion? and should i turn or lean to the side? and should my guard stay where it is or move with my head?

Nothing replaces having a partner throw jabs, hooks, overhands uppercuts, etc. at your head. Keep your hands down and just use evasion (not blocking). The reason somebody would do this for you is you're goin to do ti for them. If nobody wants to train with you it's not beacuse of your goals, they might be thinking you're probably not at their skill level or they dont know you well enough yet or maybe you smell bad or ar too damn ugly

that's my point, he's whining about how nobody will spar with him. Why the hell not? What's wrong with him anyways? Maybe he hasn't asked anybody to "dance", meaby he's "shy", or scared, or maebe he's just a pussy, I dont know But when I use to train fresh meat like him was very popular, if you know what I mean...

Fighters have different psychologies; some guys are happy go lucky, like Oscar De Lahoya and George Foreman; some guys are smooth and stylish like Ali or Roy Jr; Some guys are mean - Johnny Tapia, Fernando Vargas, Tyson; some guys are really quiet and serious - Klitschko Bros, Hollyfield etc.
These guys don't train the same way - their trainers know how to get into their head and bring out the best in them.

The law of tyranny:
1. Any power that can be abused will be abused
2. Abuse always expands to fill the limits of resistance to it.
3. If people don't resist the abuses of others, they will have no one to resist the abuses of themselves, and tyranny will prevail.

There is a thing called a slip bag you can practice on. The tennis ball thing on a string is good too, I have used something similar a sand filled ball hung in my living room it works well, and I could take it down when I was done.
A good drill is to have a partner throw a jab nice and slow practice slipping it. Remember not to move out of range just tilt your head to one side (protect chin with shoulder) let the punch just pass by your ear then counter. As you get better have your partner punch faster and faster.
Also boxers rarely throw single punches they usually throw punches in combinations, so you’ll need to progress to bobbing and weaving. You can also drill this against focus mitts just remember after you slipped or B and W to always counter.
