yup, the jaw is the place to try and hit for a KO.

hitting the forehead and rest of the skull with a fist is going to hurt you.

open handed strikes are used alot by bouncers etc, whos job would be threatened if they had broken knuckles all the time.

open handed strikes can do a lot of damage. a bloke i train with recently showed them on me (feeling is believing!) and it really shakes your head around. he was punching about 40% power. a full power open handed strike could do a lot of damamge to the neck due to the whiplash effect or kill.

you could, if you wanted also punch harder parts of the body with the open handed strikes. try hitting a wall with your knuckles its going to hurt. hit the wall next to you with the palm of your hand and its ok.

all punches can be thrown with the hand open. try hooks, instead of a fist have your palm heel in, it works ok.

i am not 100% whether i could pull off open handed strikes in a fight yet as i havent trained them much.
just be careful if you box. i have found, due to handwraps and boxing gloves, that i dont shut my fist really tight when i punch open handed

Well we are assuming you can hit harder than a toddler.

Full punch to a concrete wall and I'd do more than bust my damn hand. I break my wrist and my arm too.

We aren't talking all wrapped up or anything just bare hand on something harder than your hand. Physics tells us the weakest thing is gonna give. and when it comes to a solid wall vs your arm the weakest thing is you.

          Are you fukin crazy?
Hit hard only if you wanna break the wall.

My training is about hitting soft. First punch's soft. Then increase power. You'll feel nothing. Then it will annoy. When you hit hard enough to feel pain, you got your limit. Hit w/ this power 500 times. I know there's enough of lossers saying it wont do shit after 20-30 punches. But you believe me
100-200 punches and you'd like to stop it and never do it again

When you'll have solid knuckles, you can hit wall harder...

A couple thousand punches on a heavy bag is fine for me.

I'll stay way from hitting concrete walls. I know what can happen. Saw some moron decide to punch my door of my school. It was a good hit, but it was a steel door. A few weeks later the swelling went down a bit. I doubt his hand will ever be the same.

hey im 14 and i got a boxers fracture about 4 days ago from punching someone on the side of the head. i went to the ER and i got all my xrays and stuff which shows a small crack in my 5th metacarple. the doctor put a splint on to hold my pinky still and said i needed to have it on for 6 weeks. i took off the splint recently and i seem to have minimal pain in the knuckle and the swelling has gone away. the only pain i feel is when i attempt to bend the pinky back to a certain point, and the finger is fully functional. i was wondering if the splint is still nessacary for the 6 weeks because basketball season is beginning in a few days and i feel i can play without further injuring myself.

One other thing in response to someones comment about hitting someone in the teeth.
I did that once. Left a nasty, long scar on my hand. The other guy lost some teeth though. and it is still my favorite scar.
make sure you clean your wounds with soap and water though so you dont lose your hand due to some infection from being in someone elses mouth.
You underestimate the power a palm can do... When i took Kali and we wanted to disarm someone all we hit with was our palms, you can break a jaw so fast with ur palm.

                  hey guys.

some months ago i broke my hand (boxers fracture). seemed to heal fine. had cast on for a month.

just recently (yesterday) i decided to punch some dumb kids skateboard and instantly knew i broke my hand again, same place, haha.

but what was wierd is that when i applied pressure on it, it popped back into place?

mom set up an orthodontists appointment for monday (currently friday), and ill see from there.

the bone seems to be in the same place it was when i first broke it, and it very slight pain. only hurts when touhced good enough and when i move my pinky the wrong way.

professional advice would be quite lovely.

                      but sucks

I'm in a similar position with a cast on my thumb !

I can still shadow box, work on my breathing and gently roll on the mats.
