  • free standing bags

I am thinking about getting a free-standing bag so I can work on striking at home. Is there one that anyone would recommend? Any to watch out for?

Free standing bags have a base, a foundation right?

That seems to limit how close you can get to the bag, doesn't it?

How do you 'strike through' the bag if you can't get your hips close to it?

Just some things to think about.

I have the XXL Wavemaster from www.centuryma.com.
I got it for $200 including shipping on EBay. I like it alot.

At times the base can be an issue, but you can work around it fairly easy. Free standing bag isn't my first choice, but you have to go with what you can get/use.

If you are working barehand strikes get BOB. If your doing the kickbox aroebic thing then get the wavemaster. Fill with 220lb of sand and put a non-slip mat under it.

I had a wavemaster, didnt really like it. Even completly full with water I could knock it over pretty easily. And the thing moves everywhere, even with a non slip mat.

If you can really try to get a hanging.

I have a XXL Wavemaster filled with sand and an egg crate(thing that goes on top of the mattress, $20 at WalMart) and it doesnt tip or move.

The egg crate keeps it from moving.

I didnt really want to fill it with sand because it would be very hard to move afterward. With water you just have to sifon.

Definitely something to think about as I drained mine when I moved, but now I have a dolly.

you can fill them with lots of things. Sand works well and makes them pretty heavy and hard to knock over.

I like BOB, I have had two so far. But a bit pricey I sell them for 200 but they go for 300 usually.

Everything in perspective though, if you want something you can't knock over but don't want to fill you wavebag with sand. build a 2x4 square around the base and on the backside put out leg type things from it. Then it won't tip as much, but you will be limited to one side.

Or put it up against a wall.

Or just pick it up when you knock it over.
