i can't remember but i think they did that. i don't remember the outcome. I know for sure Ali went up against Helio Gracie at one time and it was super boring. They told Gracie he couldn't use any stand up wrestling moves or take downs. So he just laid on his back and tied up Ali's legs anytime he came near him but wasn't allowed to take him down so they were at a stalemate.

funny these matchups aren't as glamorous or exciting as we might imagine.

Ali fought Japanese Wrestler Antonio Inoki in the early 70's.

They couldn't agree on rules. Inoki and Ali squared off and Inoki drop kicked Ali's front leg. He did this about 15 times. Ali tried to throw socker kicks at Inoki's butt, with no effect.

The next morning Ali's left leg was reportedly swelling and held in a cast for a few days.

Yeah they did fight and bruce lost. Ali's hands were just too fast. If it were an open fight then bruce would have taken him no doubt, but with the boxing ruleset he lost.

i think Ali would win the fight as far as BOXING is concern......

but in KungFu - Bruce Lee would win, especially if using weapons like long Pole, NunChaku, broadswords, etc......

          Note:
none of the Human Dummies can last even one hit contacted by nunchakus, long Pole, especially broadswords

            okaaay......

How about Ali holding a loaded 22 gauge shotgun (without boxing gloves) vs Bruce Lee holding a kungfu pole.

I beg your pardon, but are you nuts? Bruce would have been lucky to make it out of the ring alive.

                  Muhammad Ali:
                  1) greatest boxer of his generation, possibly of all time
                  2) incredible physical gifts
                  3) extremely high level of technical knowledge
                  4) heavyweight world champion who has gone the distance with people who hit harder than Bruce Lee ever could.

                  Bruce Lee:
                  1) little guy
                  2) very athletically gifted
                  3) nowhere near as good a boxer as Ali
                  4) untested in actual competition against high-level opponents

All signs point to a bad day for Bruce. Even if all else were equal (which they clearly are not), Ali was half again Bruce's size. This gives him reach, power, and the ability to take more punishment. Bruce would've had a hard time hitting Ali in the head with their height disparity.

                  C'mon, guys...

Ali and Bruce Lee never fought... So get that out of your system. Bolo Yeung once walked in on Bruce Lee training with an Ali video and Bruce exclaimed that it could happen one day. However, Bruce also noted that in the ring, Ali would murder him.

                    In a street fight, it's anyone's guess...

Ali fought Inoki in a sort of MMA match. In the preliminary match without viewers, Inoki grabbed Ali and slammed him to the mat... Ali's reps quickly realized that the rules needed to be changed. The rules stated that Inoki couldn't grabb, hold or slamm Ali... Basically, Inoki couldn't grapple. Therefore, during the course of the match, Inoki stayed on his back. It was a one-sided affair, to say the least... Jack Dempsey was correct, Boxing has no business with grappling.

Heavyweight champion of the world vs. 147 lb. martial artist/movie star. Who do you think Bruce admired most as a boxer? Ali would win hands-down!

Ok Sherwinc your telling me because your not a "human dummy" as you so cleverly put it, could take a full on smash in the head with a nunchuk or long pole or take a cut by a broadsword?

Again you prove your stupidity, I think I will coin a new name for you. Subhuman Idiot.....

                              Correct!!!!!!!!!

and Muhammed Ali had to defeat Chuck Norris first before he had the qualifications to defeat Bruce Lee........

If Muhammed Ali is undefeatable then Chuck Norris is also undefeatable,
and even Chuck Norris cannot tackle the speed and power of Bruce Lee....

                              note:
its a century proven that Tang Soo Do of Chuck Norris cannot match the KungFu of Bruce Lee
