  • So I sparred for the first time in 6 years last night...

Made my return to sparring after 6 years of being out of MA (and out of shape). I did ok considering that it was boxing (against a pro boxer) and my background is in TKD. I was relaxed, kept my eyes open and my guard up, and all my power is definitely still there (even more so now). The frustrating part, though, is that my timing and my speed have gone to shit! I could SEE what I wanted to do but I couldn't make my hands DO it. He was just way too fast for me and I could not get any shots in with the exception of a few jabs and one good left hook. Basically, I couldn't hit him but he hit me every single time. Ah well, that's why he's a pro

I guess it will take a few times to get back into the swing of things then I will get my speed and timing back. I also need to work on slipping. I'm not used to having to move my head so much, which is a necessity in boxing.

Anyone else ever taken years off like that? How long did it take you to get back into the "rythm"?

I trained in TKD for bout 2 years and have only recently changed to boxing I have found that it took me bout a month to get into the swing of things. JUst getting used to a boxers speed is wat does it but after a while i got used to it and im able to get into the fight much better.

How much training/fights record/length of time have u done TKD?

I did TKD for about 4 years and we did lots of hard sparring. I am used to taking the hits, etc., but I'm not used to having to move so much. You do a lot more of "just standing there" in TKD
