  • Training/Conditioning the KNUCKLES

    Hey everyone,

I want to thicken and strengthen up my knuckles. Does anyone have a good method of doing so?

One more thing. Does cracking knuckles cause arthritis? Or is it just a rumor?

Do knuckle pushups. As for cracking them, yes it does.

A canvas heavy-bag helps. Do many different types of knuckle pushup on different media, etc. Just use your knuckles more and they will toughen up.

One thing about the hands that most people forget. Take some time everyday to stretch your hands and individual fingers. Most people stretch every body part except their hands. Not only does this prevent cramping, but it also makes your hands and grip stronger. Cramps in your hands can lead to making improper fists. Strong hands make strong fists. You'll be able to hit a lot harder if you take care of your hands and punch using the proper knuckles.

i want to start doing knucke pushups.
My problem is when i do trhem my knucles are swished by the weight of my body. is that ok or should i hold something in my fist so they don't get swashed.

when I stretch my fingers they go almost vertically, assuming my palm is face down. So I can stretch them back at a 45 degree angle. Um...can any one else do this?

Thats a good thing, just dont over-do it. You want your knuckles to get stronger not damaged. After a while they'll toughen up and they wont squish in anymore. Maybe you can start doing them on carpet, then move on to harder floors. Are you doing them on the proper knuckles?

actually, I can still do this. Keep stretching though. If you stop for even a little while it will take forever to get your flexibility back. I really appreciate this when practicing finger-locks. I couldnt imagine how much some techniques would hurt if I couldn't bend my fingers back that far.
