Mike Brewer>>>"But on to other topics -
It's a new week! Anyone care to pick a topic for our tip? If you'll throw it out there, I'll train it over the next few days and pitch in my two cents."

Should start a new thread so I don't look so dumb to ask this...

Boxing tip of the week, "NEVER DROP YOUR GAURD"

What might be an exception to this rule? When might a guy drop his gaurd intentionally? Is it bad to use this as "bait"?

    Thanks!

A lot of guys will relax in a certain range, or after a preferred combination and will relax or drop their guard. It's not really a bad thing if it is a concious act. Usually however, people get so used to being confortable in that moment that they will almost always relax their guard at the same times, making them easier to read. (especially when their tired)

For example a guy might come in with a jab/jab/straight/left cross, then after the cross will relax a little. Later you might see that after every straight/left cross they relax. If you pay attention to when people relax their guard its easy to confuse them by attacking on a half-beat.

The only time I intend to drop my guard is when I'm using a different part of my body to guard, or using angles as a guard. Sometimes by using a different part of my body or a different angle, I can draw punches that I'm prepared for, and expecting.

Actually I think this is a good topic to work out.
