Shadow Boxing... is.... well its basically punching the air.

Shadowboxing can include other strikes.. but since this is boxing forum only punches I guess.

Basically you move around, punching the air, make sure your footwork is well, you arent crossing your legs etc, your punches are being thrown correctly (as little telegraphing as possible). you have the proper hip rotation, you are keeping your chin tucked, your hands up, and throwing combinations.

If you want to shadow box, get into your boxing stance, and invision someone in front of you, basically box that person, move forward to close the distance and throw a jab, followed with a cross something like that.

Its basically moving around punching the air, but focusin on keeping all your techniques and things for boxing in check.

Good for a warmup, and I find it can be useful for training.

shadowboxing is probably one of the most effective ways to correct your mistakes like stance and punches. Its basically is punchin the air but you gotta do it properly. you also have to make sure not to extend your punches to the max while this coulde injurew your arms, most likely your elbows.

when i began to shadowbox i started by not extending my arms....its sorta like just using ur legs, hips, waist n shoulder motions to get usted to having good body mechanics, staying light on your feet using your footwork, then i added the actual punches and blocks/evasion and parrying techniques just pay attention to what your doing and make sure not to repeat the same patterns over and over again, it worked out great for me,when i spar (and i spar alot) i notice my overall boxing skills are very sharp and i can take advantage of peoples weakness fairly easy.
