Ali vs. Marciano

In our last fantasy boxing thread, about 50% of us thought that Ali would beat Tyson in either the mid rounds or late rounds. How about Ali vs. Marciano?

Both men had tremendous heart. Marciano would probably have a stronger chin.

Talk about contrasting fighting styles, Ali would come in light on his feet somewhat upright and springy. Marciano would come in really low and crouched.

I chose round 5 as the fewest number of rounds because both fighters could take punishment.

From what little info I have I think Ali could have out boxed him all the way, but dont think he could have knocked him out. Rocky would have been to durable.

Ali vs. Marciano

Back in 1969/70 they had a computer fight between Ali and Marciano, They filmed them, while not fighting but working on scenario's, The first thing Ali said after the filming was, "that man could really hit." After the computer said Marciano would win, Ali said, "What could you expect. It's white people running the computers.

The first five rounds Ali is quick on his feet and trying to stay within a circle, never backing into the ropes for the low-stalking Marciano. Ali sticks his jab, some of his jabs are just teasers to get The rock to commit to some kind of attack and its close.

Rock tries to rush in with overhands and long hooks with Ali moving his head back and tracking away. After Marciano commits, Ali side steps and lands a hard jab cross that rocks Marciano, but he keeps his composure with his iron jaw.

Ali lands jab after jab as Marciano is only able to cover half of the time and is waiting for his chance to get in and land a few big ones. Ali, however won't let it happen as he moves diagonal, zig-zags and out maneuvers a stalking marciano while using confusing footwork to land hard jab after hard jab on marciano.

The rocks eyes are swollen by round 8, Ali is sweating but untouched.

In the start of round 9, the rock charges marciano and follows him into the ropes where he is able to bully and trap Ali using his shoulder to ram Ali and land devastating hooks which clearly put the hurt on Ali.

Ali fires off a few uppercuts that land squarely on marciano, but marciano is in a trance and is trying to take off Ali's head. He lands a right hook that sends Ali into the other corner and Ali just barely gets out of the rock's reach.

Ali is fired up now fighting a distance game against a frustrated rock. The rock continues to rush his way in only to meet with Ali's jab. Ali's eye is cut.

Ali continues into the last rounds with a good lead on marciano, making him miss alot of shots and landing his own. The rock is able to hurt ali with some big bodyshots but covers up to protect his head and gets back to the distance game.

The rock's eyes are nearly swollen shut from eating 70% of Ali's jabs, but he won't go down.

Judges give Ali a win by a considerable point lead. We find out that one of Ali's ribs is broken and is later taken to the hospital for repair.

Well put. It's Marciano's "never go down" attitude vs Ali's unbelievable skill.

The key would be if Marciano got cut. If Mariano was cut badly Ali would win by tko. If not cut too badly Ali would probably win decision but it wouldn't be a sure thing. Marciano took punches from the nose up to his forhead - leading him to get cut a lot but not stunned badly, even if he was knocked off balance. It was hard to get a clear shot at his chin and he was always waiting to exploit someone who over-reached.

Ali took body shots very well, which would have helped v. Marciano.
