  • Breaking in new gloves??

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I feel kind of stupid asking this because I can't find anyone else w/ this problem, but is it common to "break in" new bag gloves?? I've been hitting a heavy bag (no, I don't know the weight, but it is definitely heavy) for about 2 & 1/2 years, w/ 8 oz gloves, but I recently started using 12 oz because I've started to hit the bag harder over time & the 8 oz gloves feel so light to me now. Anyway, I remember my hands hurt the first few times I used the 8 oz gloves because they were so tight, but eventually my hands were fine (yes, I use wraps.) But now I'm going thru this again w/ my new 12 oz gloves, but the pain is worse than I remember it! Is this common? It makes sense to me because the material on these gloves are made super snug for some heavy duty punching, but like I said, I don't remember my knuckles feeling like they are literally shattered! Is there anyway I can loosen/break in the gloves a bit to make them more comfortable, or do I have to tough it out for a while like before? By the way, the gloves are Everlast 12oz Training Gloves (hard glove, not soft fight glove.)

I dont know what to tell ya. My gloves never hurt my hands. I would just keep going and see if they feel better in a few weeks.

      ...gloves

Thanks for your response Twtguy, but hasn't anybody else had this problem before? It would be nice to hear something among other boxers! Any type of feedback might help me to know what to do. Thanks.

I have only had this problem with gloves that were to tight. I think that is your problem from the get go.

Yeah, they're definitely tight, but only when I make a fist. Once I make a fist, the top of the glove presses down on my knuckles (like naturally when you make a fist) but then when I add contact, it pushes down on my knuckles even tighter! Well, I knocked down the punching bag at the gym I work out at (chain was cheap, not heavy duty!!) & it's not back up yet, so my hands will definitely be better when I start hitting the bag again. I'll hopefully not have so much trouble, especially since I found a better way to wrap my hands.

Well, it's official, my gloves are definitely too tight! I havn't used the heavy bag since last Friday (it's now Thursday) & my hands still hurt off & on! I brought them back, & I have my eye on a WAY MORE comfortable pair!

I like my Aries bag gloves, they have a fair amount of room.

But, I also tuffin up my knuckles on a punching board.
