Yeah alot of people in a street fights just puch like a boxing match. What you gota watch out for is when the other guy knows better and is going to end the fight quickly and not just throw back and forth. But yes boxing is good for street.

[" And although we may do our best to avoid trouble, sometimes trouble insists on finding us. When that happens......when the time for talk is over, warriors act. They flip the switch and act decisively - ruthlessly if necessary - to preserve and defend the things that they hold dear."

I think the key thing to remember, is that the fundamentals of boxing and any other fighting art are very similar and effective. That is to say, the balance and agility of a good fighter as opposed to that of a brawler. The hand eye coordination and the ability to effectively hit a moving target as opposed to that of a brawler, and the foot work and ability to set up and throw effective combinations and put the two together, as opposed to a brawler. Boxing and any other fighting art are much more than these things, but in my opinion these are what can make them effective in the street as well as the ring.
Anything I over looked?

Let's not forget the huge amount of time and effort a boxer puts into conditioning their bodies. But a boxers best defense is a strong offense, his ability to spot flaws and pick out weeknesses, and to counter effectively. Any one can be taught to punch but counter punching effectively takes a little more work. Timing is key, hitting while moveing in on an opponent is different than hitting while side stepping or moveing away from an opponent. Different body positions different transference of weight from shoulders to hips to feet. All of these things count.

Originally posted by StealthModewhat i really like about boxing is a boxer's mobility, their ability to move and attack. I just want to know though what are a boxer's defences. Are the defenses the two forearm covering of the face, slips, dodging and evading?
And you're always protecting as much as possible, even while throwing a commited punch like a cross.

i think counter attacks are some of the best defensive skills that boxers have. parrying shots, and countering with attacks of your own are extremely effective as a defense and as an offense. this is what people are talking about when they say your defense is your offense. u can straight up stop people dead in their tracks when they are about to launch an attack.

One of a boxer's best weapons is knowing how to hit hard and land.
Anyone whose trained in boxing more than 3 months has probably thrown a cross-hook-cross combination with a coach holding the focus mitts.
Here it is.

Originally posted by EmptyneSsthat wasnt bad at all. besides the nice ko, u could tell the kid in the red had some experience in boxing. his body wasnt squared up like the other kid, and notice the hip rotation in his punches that set up the knockout. his hip rotation put him in perfect place to deliver that cross after his left hook glanced off the guys face. that was fast, simple, and to the point. immagine if the guy hadnt even been wearing those gloves, the other kid woulda been in a colder world.
You can tell the kid in the red boxed by his stance, footwork, that quick jab he threw, keeping his head down, chin tucked when he threw that cross-hook-cross combo he put his hips into it.
The point I'm getting at is the simplicity of boxing makes it effective. You can put that cross-hook-cross combo to work right away with sparring.
