Anything will 'work' on the street or MMA given the right conditions/premises.
Not to say that boxing is bad (it's great!), but this whole discussion of whether X style or Y discipline will or will not work in the street is a tad meaningless given the MULTITUDE of different techniques that each 'discipline' encompasses. Some of them useful, others not.
Too many variables.

and lets not forget those manly tights or Bas's Pink penchant in the ring....

Technically, you can be strait swimmer or ballerina or anything and in fact fight, but please don't say that a strait boxer is likely to win in modern high-level MMA. Also, I doubt anyone can defend a boxer's loss in MMA by saying he didn't want to look like a gay lover, this is rather meak.

me thinks you boys misunderstood me.....im saying boxing does work...i never said by itself but as a component of a fighters arsenal it is truly one of the most valuable methods of fighting....in the octagon or on the street.....by itself? not in the octagon ....on the street? a really good boxer is tough to beat but not unbeatable.....just VALUABLE!!

sigh... "boxing" by "itself" works.. sure it works. What do u call a knockout? How can you distinguish a 'boxing' punch from a 'thai boxing' punch or a 'boxe francias' punch or a kung-fu punch?
Do you peer closely at the screen and watch it in slow mo and see if you can tell if it came from the hip or the shoulder, or if it corkscrewed at the end, or if the fist was horizontal or vertical upon contact?
A hard-ass punch to the chin is a hard-ass punch to the chin... call it what you want, and you're damn right it works cuz it's a hard-ass punch to the chin.
fer chrissake.
