  • Which boxers can cut it in MMA

Which boxers would you like to see in any mma tournments? And which one do you think will be highly ranked in mma?

  • #2
    1. Tyson.

Why? Because he's fought most of his life and has KO power. He would pick up leg kicks and clinch work quickly because he's already a stand up fighter and has awesome balance. His ground game would be so-so at first, but give him time...

    2. RJJ

Because of his handspeed and agility. Again, boxers are untested on the ground so this is a difficult question.

    3. Oscar De la Hoya

Because of his heart, conditioning and smarts. I'm still blown over by his first win over Vargas - a hard hitting, brawler with no love.

I'm willing to bet that most of them could, provided that they spent enough time training for it.

No, you're probably thinking King Hippo (whose spoken prose is matched only by his boxing skill).....

....sometimes I speak and box like King Hippo.

Fedor would be too smart for Hippo. As soon as he saw the band-aid he'd make it his target and then it would be all over

King Hippos defense is impenetrable (remember). Plus he weighs 6,439,762,192 lbs and would be hard to take down.

None. Any Pro Boxer would get pummelled into submission after being tossed to the floor. It would be entertaining though. I dont think any Boxer would do well in MMA, unless they started training in Grappling a while ago.

Klitshco vs Fedor....... Fedor by whatever he wants

DLH vs Sherk....... Sherk by anything he wants

RJJ vs Any MMA fighter...... That MMA fighter by anything he wants

Oscar De la Hoya would get his ass kicked against any real MMA fighter.

i agree that any boxer without training in other ranges would be fucked......however....lets take tyson for example....of course not now hes fat and old....but in his earlier days.....and lets put him up against say liddell....another stand up fighter known for striking.....do you reallly think liddell would go toe to toe with tyson? remember liddell against tito recently?.....put a young tyson in there trading punches with liddell.....what do you think would happen?.....all i can say is liddell would be lucky he didnt get brain damage......i will say this .....in the stand up ranges .....and take the time to read this before you go off.....in the stand up ranges guys like tyson and roy jones would destroy guys like liddell and any other striker in the game ....period......however....MMA is not only about striking ....its all ranges.....so unless a boxer was thoroughly trained in grappling ....he would get beat....bad.

Obviously if a pure boxer didn't do any cross training for MMA he would be in trouble. The two sports are completely different. That being said, a professional boxer with good power and good footwork would easily be able to hold their own in an MMA fight. Plenty of MMA fighters rely on striking and good take down defense to be successful. That is exactly what a boxer would have to do. I think the transition would be difficult, but boxing’s elite fighters could be very successful at MMA. The same can be said for MMA’s elite fighters.

If a WC boxer in any weight division fought a WC MMA fighter in the same weight division the boxer would be killed, destroyed, crippled. Unless a boxer started doing some grappling training and MT training for at least 5 years any world class boxer would get destroyed. It takes a long time getting used to being kicked in the legs. In a match between a WC boxer and a WC MT kickboxer the MT fighter could inflict enough pain with low kicks to the legs to a WC boxer that he might quick. If a boxer tried to get inside the range of those kicks the knee/elbow strikes would inflict tremendous pain. There is a huge difference b/t get punched to the face or body and absorbing a elbow/knee strike to the face, head, sternum, rib cage. Anybody who thinks that a WC boxer alive today could handle that must be smokin' the good stuff. Every MT MA remembers the first time they got kicked hard with a low kick and their leg quived. Every grappler remembers the first time you got slammed to the mat by a training partner who had a bad day at work, the first time your instructor put a choke on your arse that almost made you pass out. Remember when you first started grappling training and you felt your knee or elbow about to pop and your traing partner wasn't appyling that much pressure. In a random street fight a boxer could take a grappler or MT kickboxer and visa versa, I have seen both. But in the ring, please stop dreaming. If a world class boxer thinks he could defeat a WC MMA fighter, how many WC boxers have stepped into the ring or cage in the last 10 to 15 years. A while back when I heard Iron Mike considered competing in MT I laughed for about an hour at the thought of a convicted rapist getting the living crap beat out of him because he deserves it.
