weights will definitely help with your power but not with your speed........look at the fastest boxers in history.....ali, roy jones, sugar ray robinson.....none of them used weights in their routine ....but....the one exercise they all loved to do the most is shadowbox!!....coincidence ?....naw ......ali would walk around his high school as a teenager shadowboxing .....everywhere he went......the best way to get fast is to punch.....dont use hand weights or any resistance when you do it.......just bare or wrapped hands........warm up slow and go fast throwing quality punches/combinations......good form is essential.......lifting weights wont slow you down as long as you counteract the resistance training with fast shadowboxing...this is my opinion based on studying the habits and training similarities of the fastest of the fastest......wanna run like a cheetah ? watch how he runs.
