I train at an MMA gym but people humor me there by sparring me with straight up boxing rules and im a heavy weight and every one tells me i have excellent speed for a heavy weight and i started lifting weights and it seemed like it made me slower so are there any specific work outs i could do to increase my punching speed? and if theres anything yall could tell me to increase my punch power as well would make me very happy lol

Dont lift heavy....low weight high reps.. builds your muscle endurance and burns fat while toning. You dont want bulky muscle you want long lean muscles...run a hell of alot on top of that.

Again, good advice. Bro, since our last falling out you have been on target with nearly EVERY post I read by you. Shit, maybe we should argue more often!!! THIS IS THE JKD187 I REMEMBER!

      Keep up the good stuff.

        A couple of things:

Hit the heavy bag - focusing on 5-7 punch combinations. Start off with 1,2,1,2,1 etc. end your flurry with your left hand (if you're a right hander). Use good form and focus on getting the punches out there, rather than trying to KO the bag. Do the same thing, but with 3,2,3,2,3. Mix it up - try this one 1,2,1,4,3 (where 1 = jab, 2 = cross, 4 = right upper cut, 3 = left hook : assuming you're a right hander). You're building the ability to throw quick punches in bunches.

If you have a trainer, work the focus mitts. Let him feed them to you for one round - leading what you need to do. Then in the second round, ask him to give you the half-second drill where he feeds you a certain punch (at his calling) and you either hit it within half a second or you miss. If this is the first time to do this and your reflexes are average, you'll probably miss about 60% of the time. You're working on timing - which is complimentary to hand speed but equally important.

Someone once said that your punches should be like rockets.

For some reason when I heard that, it made me consciously explode my punches out as hard as I could.
