  • Amir Khan

I have said a number of times before on here that I rate this kid very highly.

Tonight in Bolton, UK he goes for his 17th straight professional win, in an eliminator for the WBO World Lightweight Title. His opponent is Martin Kristjansen, an experienced 30 year old from Denmark with a record of 19 and 1. I'm watching the fight, I'll post the result and if I can grab it quick enough, the footage from YouTube.

Here is a recently added showreel of Amir:

Oliver and his brother Humphry came from the Master Sken stable at the same time as Sandy Michael, the 2 brothers were both very good fighters and both went into Boxing as did the former world cruiserweight champion Karl(the cat) Thompson.

I have to be honest, the least convincing performance from Khan to date.

He won by stoppage in the 7th round, but I have my doubts. His opponent was tough and awkward and from round 3 onwards Khan was getting frustrated, and tired. He kept trying to switch to Southpaw and other tactics but Kristjansen was cool and persistent. The fight turned when Khan did get a good shot in the 7th, Kristjansen dropped to his knees and Khan hit him, twice, hard, whilst he was on the floor. As a fighter I respect, I was very dissapointed with this, it showed desperation and lack of fair play. By the book he should have had a point deducted, but home turf prevailed. Once back on his feet Khan simply chased KJ across the ring, not really scoring any shots but giving the impression that he was overwhelming him. The Ref stepped in and stopped the fight.

Kristjansen looked perfectly fine, I think Khan played the game well knowing that the Ref would step in if he made it look like his opponent was in real trouble. He didn't look like it to me, Khan just ran at him and swang, nothing hit clean. However if he was in trouble it may be due to the two big shots he got hit with when he was on his knees.

I have seen a big chink in the armour, and lost some respect for young Amir.

Amir looked to me to just be throwing punches in bunches and hoping some would land.
IMO he won that on fitness rather than pure boxing.
He is able to bang hard for a long time, which of course tired him in this fight but he did it again in the 7th, i think he will find world level hard.

Oh "The Lane", lovely! I'm in Finsbury Park now, and its pretty grim to be honest.

You gonna start a club in Middlesborough?

not sure yet, i really want to carry on in the ring, so i might join a boxing club and just box for a while, trying to see what is around right now.
might have some boxing matches i think.
