Shane Mosley hasn't changed his style much. He was banging in there with Antonio Margarito like he would have any other time in his prime. It seems to me that the power of feeling young and confident is everything. Once fighters start feeling and looking old is when he begins down the path of losses.
Roy Jones is a great example. He went up to heavyweight and became champion which was historical. Before then, nearly everything he did seemed to be effortless. Then once he came back down from heavyweight, he never was the same. He even beat Tarver the first time, but looked very human doing it. Then after that last win, he began getting caught, which led to him becoming gunshy, which led to fighters not being afraid to go all out against him.
There wasn't an error in his style that led to RJJ's loss. It was his ego that led him to lose 26lbs of muscle in 6 weeks that had effects on his body that never let him be the same caliber of athlete again.
Its that power of youth that seems to be making the difference with these men between 37-43. Two Golden Boy Promotion partners finding new zest and life in their careers after years of slow and disappointing performances?
I gotta tell ya .... its something else.
