  • What size gloves to use?

What size boxing gloves do you use to train with on the heavy bag and mitts? Spar with?

I'm about 171 lbs. walking around and can cut down to 160 pretty easily.

Just want to know what the best size gloves to use so as to prevent injuries, and also for training effectiveness.

GQ, it depends on what you are trying to accomplished. Without know know much, I would say just start with a 16oz. It will be tough at first, but after some time your strength and quickness will improve..

you can check out the link in my sig for any assistance, feel free to PM me.

I am training for speed, strength, and power, and primarily for real life application on the street as opposed to sport.

I am looking at two gloves, the Cleto Reyes training gloves with laces, in the14 oz. version just to have something other than a 16 oz. size.

I have also been looking at the ringside pro fight glove in the 12 oz. with the broken in leather which in the notes about the product looks like its regularly used in the gym both on the mitts and the heavy bag.

          Cleto Reyes

Your weight class is between Super Middleweight to Light Heavyweight, I'd strongly suggest using 16oz Gloves for your training, If your find them a little to punishing then work up to them, But really for your size you should easily be able to cope with 16's.

            No more then 18mins though
