  • Newbie..... with a few boxing questions

sup guys..... i just found this forum the other day and figured i would post a few questions. I have been boxing with the heavy bag the last few months getting back into some good shape. I have some Everlast Heavy Bag Gloves (14oz i believe) but i still get cuts on a few of my knuckles. I also wrap my hands well. I have had to cut down my boxing to 4 times a week because of the cuts on my knuckles. Is there anyway to stop these cuts from forming on my knuckles? is it the way i am punching?

i used to do that before.. you have to keep punching the bag..

wear wraps.. and cover your knuckles..
keep hitting it and it wont do it anymore.. it's just like that homie.. you have to enjoy it until it's gone..

soon you wont need wraps like me i can wack the bag without gloves.. dont have to be chuck norris. any gloves in this style..

    i recommend..

i use these type of gloves.. they have a tight strap for your wrists... so that when you punch you wont twist your wrist and it protects your knuckles..

    these gloves are bad!!

    try them

i have these ^^^ i bought em at a martial arts store for about 60 bucks.. viper grappling gloves. they come with a grip.. but you can take a razor and slice the ends and slide that grip right out and your straight!! when i hit the bag i use these gloves and when i'm in the ring i have to use regular gloves but i'm picky about my gloves.

        you can buy them here

if your nuckles are getting cut it is because your gloves are too loose and sliding around on your hands. you should not have any cuts on your hands if you are wearing wraps and gloves. you want gloves that fit tight around your wraps. i have found that everlast gloves are shit. they don't last long and don't provide enough protection. the nhb gloves that these guys reccomended work ok but they don't give you as much protection as a good pair of bag gloves designed for hitting the bag. make sure your bag gloves have foam padding and not cotton. the cotton gets matted down and floats around in the glove and they don't last long. ringside.com has a great selection of bag gloves at all different types and price ranges. all their stuff is top quality and the best you will find bar none.

                    your trippin...

i have some everlast boxing gloves and those suckers last forever..

                    i have the 12 ounce..

they seem big but their small... and they have no strings.. they are slip ons..

i wear those with no wraps and easily f.uck s.hit up.. everlast is tight.. in my book...

My knuckles bled when I started at the boxing gym. Just have to keep hitting. The cuts don't bother me if it does happen but it really doesn't anymore. As much as i love boxing I prefer no gloves on the heavy bag. If you harden your knuckles and they no longer bleed....Try working with no gloves. you might want to make sure you have strong wrists too. If you hit the bag with your bare knuckle and it gets cut, you are hitting the bag wrong....kind of rubbing the fist on the bag.... same with knees and elbows.....you always want to hit with the strike head on.....you get maximum power and less likely to cut

Consider this type of glove - it's cheaper and offers more protection

I have used an everlast version for the past 2 years, and they are still in excellent condition.

The bleeding goes away with time, as does the wrist rolling thing. Try not using wraps every once in a while and maybe using just wraps, or going bare-knuckle.

YES THEY ARE GOOD.. BUT I LIKE THE OTHER ONES CAUSE IT MAKES YOUR FIST STRONGER.. WHEN YOU TRY TO PUNCH REGULARLY .. I CAN PUNCH THE BAG WITH NO GLOVES NOW..

I just train w/o the gloves sometimes, and always when doing impact training.
