First, practice your footwork over and over again.
Second, If your like me 6’-3” 230lbs with an average since of balance if that, do as I have and practice on your ground work enough so your able to protect yourself should you hit the ground and practice counters to help you get out of a clinch on the ground and get back to your feet.
Third, blocking/deflecting and striking are the same. When I’m teaching a class or outside of class, people often ask me to defend myself, when someone is throwing rapid strikes. They expect me keep blocking/deflecting there strikes, but the fact of the matter is if someone throws a 1000 strikes the chances of you blocking/deflecting all of them is not possible. One only increases there odds by practicing counters and timing. Also, its not realistic if I’m not able to strike back.
That being said, you asked, “also is it ok if i use my right hand first in a street fight.” Only if the opportunity exist. Meaning if you see an opening for your left take the opportunity and strike. Same with blocking/deflecting, if the opportunity exist protect yourself.
Rule No. 1 as fare as I’m concerned, is fight the fight. Don’t try to use your MA/boxing/streetfighting techniques. You will be telegraphic and get beat. Use your techniques when the opportunity exist. By practicing they will come out naturally.
That’s also why I have the closing statement of the bottom of being dedicated to one art. For years I wanted to have a black belt in everything. I got one in Kemp, Shotokan, black sash in Wing Chun, instructor in eskrima. Now, I focus on the Filipino MA but I practice Cadena de Mano by going to a full contact boxing gym and practice my Dumog at a submission wrestling club.
Hope that helps.

I would get a couple of books on boxing and check them out. I found a book at the library that gives the absolute basics in boxing and I found it to be of great help. One thing you can do is watch Rocky 2. When they are doing steps to the music. Ok I know that sounds ridiculous but I have seen people train like that and it works. You do have to develop a rythm. You can either do a back and forth rocking motion or a side to side. I would practice with both respectively. Just burn a copy of Eye of the Tiger and start prancing around. Fly like a butterfly sting like a bee. Stay on your toes and keep your feet shoulder with apart and under your shoulders. Feet spread too wide you move slow, too close together and you have no balance. If you know how to pull off the basic punches then some of this should fall into place pretty easy.
