uhm? Swedish police WT!?!?
Originally posted by Hot SauceEffective against what? Contact the headquarters for the Swedish, German or/and the Chinese police and they will probably confirm that WT is being used. You want evidence that WT will work in self-defence? What kind of evidence? Can anyone proove to me that any Martial Art will work in self-defence?
Are you a special police officer? In what country? What kind of unarmed and armed combat system are your training as a part of the special police training?
Some of them have been i the "riotsquads". NONE of them have done any WT.
And I am 100% sure that the swedish police hq has nothing to do with WT.
I live in the 3 largest city in Sweden and trust me... WT is VERY VERY small here.

Zegna,
I am NOT claiming that all the special police forces in sweden train WT as their unarmed combat system, but I do know that the there is a special WT and Escrima "school" in Stockholm that probably train police officers, not all of course since hand to hand combat isn't their top priority. The school name is "Stockholmspolisens Escrima/WT sektion".
BTW I don't think the riot squads need to know how to fight unarmed, they have their "sticks" and shields, here in Sweden anyway.
Yes I agree, WT is very "small" here in Sweden and I have never said anything that contradicts that.

Thai Bri.... just a simple question...
I know that you are not fond of WC artist (and I admit some of them are pretty arrogant), but why are you wasting so much energy bad mouthing the discipline? Use that energy promoting disciplines that you have benefitted from and go from there that's all!

thai bri....
hi bri.
i posted a post on a different site about the boxing vs wing chun thing.
it's the long post near the bottom. I do not intend to say what you say is rubbish, I just am coming from the other side of things so you may find my story interesting.
I really appreciate a lot of your comments:
-i personally think most boxer/mt will destroy average WC person. this is cos average WC club is a few hours of punching air and playing the little touching arm games. the boxing clubs i have been to are hardcore bag work and sparring.
- i think there are 10x more charlatans teaching WC or any 'classical' kung fu, karate, etc style than teach boxing or MT. it is really easy to spot a bad boxing teacher.
- i LOVE boxing and MT and think both are fantastic.
I would like to add:
- my experiences showed that WC is a good system, but just needs a long time to master and must be taught with the same emphasis on full contact sparring.
- i think wc 'can' be as or MORE effective than b/MT if done right.
I plan to go back into WC myself. "why?" i hear you ask...
because I believe that WC is still a good system. it is very effective when trained/implemented right (as when my friend decked me). i am convinced that with 1 year MT i would be more street effective than 1 year WC, but I feel that as years (yes, years) pass the WC will overtake.
Also, i personally enjoy the art of learning WC. I like the science of the system. i like learning all the complex principles and the forms and i like to learn the chi sao drills. it is great fun. It will challenge me intellectually more than MT/b and hold my interest more long term. Also, I have two good friends that are into it and we will be able to train together.
You will be relieved to know that I do not intend to stick around long to any club that does not do heavy sparring, either. Because, yes, I believe without heavy or full contact sparring it is all a lot of fancy looking ideas.
I do think the punches are lame, as well, but that does not bother me because the eye/throat strikes are very effective. And, oh yeah, I will also probably start training some groundfighting, too.
Bri lastly I must say that I think a lot of what you say is very valid, but you do seem to take unnatural delight from trashing WC. i personally think TKD is a pile of poo (I did it for one year) but I would think it unnecessary to jump in at every TKD post and tell all the TKD people their system sucks. It is almost like you are not just stating an opinion, but are taking real delight in doing so.
happy sparring,
john

but WingChun it could be learned totally 3 years by an average student (stricktly 1,098 days) and those days that you did not practice wingchun is not included in 1,098 days.....
but if you reach 3 years of practicing wingchun - i dont think you must stop learning kungfu...... learning kungfu is a lifetime process - a way of life......
Note:
will you be able to believe me if i say that WINGCHUN'S PUNCH IS A VERY POWERFUL PUNCH COMPARE TO WESTERN BOXING????????
how?????
want a clue??????
one of the secret to a powerful punch is your stepping and stance while delivering a kungfu punch.....

In the end all martial arts are the same just with different names they are all fighting styles of defence and offence.
It is better to learn to the best of your ability to be able to fight to win but that does not mean you need to put this to practice, so your training the knowledge without necissarily needing to use it but then when you do need to use it , it's there, your focused and your confident.
Before a fight starts you can tell if someones going to bottle out of it but stands their ground for their own street cred which is a really dumb thing to do *because they hope you'll see they lost their bottle and will let them off*.
at the end of the day whoever wins , wins and the other person loses, you can'not have 2 sides of a coin the same without cheating!

Hey guys i know its ben ages since i replied to the forum *bad Emma* basically the way i see it as long as your train your martial art the best you can and better then you have a better chance of winning fight situations but you also have to be able to control your fear and andrenaline.
Martial arts are all the same with different names!
