    • chnagquan or long fist?

      Changquan or Long fist
      Part 1

From shaolin Kung-Fu came many styles that spread from it. The first earliest style is known in Chinese as TaijuChanquan this translated means "The Long Fist Style."

The meaning behind 'Long' means that it is a continuation of movesthat create patterns in their sets, this reflects the continuous flow of the long river which the Chinese call the Yangtze Kiang.

Later on changquan / Long Fist was used for other styles of Kung-Fu, where movements become fast, forceful, stretching movements and beautiful jumping and kicking techniques, all delievered with continuous movement. All of the Long Fist styles are either from Northern shaolin or have been greatly influenced by it.

A Chinese Muslim by the name of jamil invented Changquan also known as cha Kung-Fu. this was around he time of the Ming dynasty. The term comes from his name which in Chinese is pronounced "Cha-Mi-L".
Also Duaquan can be referred to as meaning Kung-Fu of muslims, this is because of it's popularity amongst the Muslims in North Western China.

There are 10 parts to this beautiful art which is excellent for fighting these 10 are:

      1 mother and Son
      2 Hand Movements
      3 flying Kicks
      4 Prosperity and Peace
      5 East Of the Gate
      6 Ambush
      7 Plum Flower
      8 Continuous Attack
      9 Tail Wagging
      10 Linked

Hong quan is pronounced Hung Ch' uan, also known as Hong Kung-Fu. This is well known in Shanxi and Sichuan.
It was founded by a very famous Shaolin monk Jue Yuan of the Yuan dynasty and was named after 2 basic sets.' Little hong' and 'Big hong'. It is well a well liked style of Northern Shaolin Kung-Fu.
Chinese translation of the word Hong means 'Red' also said the same way as a word meaning great. This is also a popular surname.

Hong Xi Guan has a famous style of Southern shaolin Kung-Fu named after him, called Hongquan.
Although spelt differently they are exact when written in Roman script.

Baoquan also known as Cannon Kung-Fu is an ancient style, documents tell us that the famous Shaolin monk Yuan Zhong gave a demo of Baoquan to the first Tang emperor during his inauguration as a general. Baoquan holds it's name for it's speed and power.

The 12 basic techniques are known as the 12 cannons.

        • "The 12 basic techniques are known as the 12 cannons."

Heh, I won't say nothing about that. Why are they known as cannons? Don't shaolin monks practice wushu? They can't fight bri how come? I have seen effective shaolin kung fu.

It seems to me that the terms Wing tsun,Ving tsun have only been bandied around for the last ten years or so.I could be wrong dont know.Seems wing chun has almost as much internal(political) fighting as TKD

                        • Ving Tsun has always been used by Yip Man. The other non Yip Man Linages uses different names. Wing Tsun, has, as you said, only been used for 10? years or so. I don't know much about the politics in TKD but they seem to be a lot more organized then WC with the WTF and ITF organziation spreading worldwide.

                            • Nope. Wing Chun was the Yip Man lineage. It was Leung Ting who came up with Wing Tsun, and a guy in Britain called Victor Khan - Ving Tsun.

This last guy caused a stir some years back. he had a chinese written sign outside his training hall. So what I hear you say. It read "Sundays, Chinese Only".

Maybe only they got to learn the deadly secrets!

                              • I thought that Yip Man always used the spelling "Ving Tsun" when translated to english, thats what it says in the Roots of Wing Tsun by Leung Ting f I'm not mistaken.
