  • Is Wing Chun what i am looking for?

ok i will try to make this as understandable as possible cuz its sounds even confusing to me

what style will train me to have the ability to well basically be able to punch really fast and link punches together really quickly and proficiently and at the same time parry/redirect and cancel out i guess u would say an opponents attacks, would this be wing chun if so how effective is it, i mean to me it seem to be very effective, teaching good reaction time, speed, power and penetration, chaining techniques together. plz tell me what u think

oh and one more thing i live in the clearwater, florida area, could any of u who are familiar with the area or good at finding martial arts schools tell me if there are any wing chun schools around, provided wing chun is the answer to the above post.

thanks very much in advance, sry if this sounds confusing,

Well, I can't comment on the Florida situation as I live in UK.

However, I have been doing Wing Chun for just over 2 years, and I can say that the techniques are structurally fast, so chances are you'd be able to develop the speed you're after.

All the defenses involve either evading with footwork or redirecting with a soft defense, so that's what you're after too.

Wing Chun is also great for the reflexes thanks to Chi Sau and other drills.

A lot of people knock Wing Chun for Chi Sau, and say it's not practical in a street fight, but when it comes down to self defence, our response is very simple and brutally effective.

In theory, Wing Chun should cover everything you're looking for, but ultimately it all depends on the instructor. Best of luck to you....

Theory theory theory. Wing Chun is brilliant in theory. But it lacks credibility backed up by practice.

        why bother?

        hey thai bri,
if you dislike wing chun so much, and think it is ineffective, why do you spend so much time in the wing chun threads discussing them? seems like a big waste of time, doesn't it?

A guy asked how effective Wing Chun is. My answer is plain to see. I guess he can take it or leave it or, if he wants to, ask me further.

Either way, at least I can back up my position without resorting to theories.

Thai, please don't establish your 'arguments' by picking at my words.
All I meant is that if someone, for example, was interested in learning how box, use their knees and elbows effectively, and get in good shape, Thai Boxing would be able to give them what they want, in theory. However, they might then find that the style was not exactly what they envisioned or hoped for, or it just didn't suit them.
I did not 'resort to theories', so please do not continue to twist my words like a petty little bitch.
If you think Wing Chun is so crap, why don't you seek out an instructor like Billy Davidson or Sam Kwok and see if you can beat them?

Because that would be behaving like a moron. Is it a coincidence that you recommended it? Haw haw haw.

Jun Fan, the post you quoted was in response to uncarved. But, looking at your first post, you have not "resorted" to any practical examples neither.

I don't see why I should stand back and let some of my less experienced forum members be taken in by the theoretical bull shit that is Wing Chun. At best it is an incomplete art that offers only segments for others to take.

                  1. I hope you are sitting, but if you like to stand and type more power to ya

                  2. Like I said I respect your feeling toward WC. So let's discuss respect, If have a different perspective..fine. But just to say something is shit...period no one use. Sorry Bri you are completely wrong. Can YOU Beat every Kareteka that faithfully practice kata at any stage of your like. Can you beat every pure WC stylist? the answer is no. Fighting didn't start with combatives, MMA etc. I have foght using WC and I have said that before but I geuss that is not proof enough. You arguments are static and can be used for every MA style. The stress should be on the level of reality training as that is more the issue than the style. though poor instructors are also a problem..

So let me see, Wing Chun is nothing but 'theoretical bullshit', yet to go and challenge one of its masters would be moronic? Inconsistent methinks....

                          all these arguments

all these arguments, no matter which side you are on, ultimately amount to jack-squat. no system is complete and no system is useless. if more people could admit that, there would be nothing to argue.

'there are no superior martial arts. only superior martial artists.'

Wing Chun is a real martial art not a sport. It is good for what you put in your post.

The punches are very fast and with the trapping skills, you opponent won't even get a punch in.
