  • what forms do you do in kungfu?

I was just wondering if anyone does a type of kungfu and i was also wondering if you do kungfu, then what forms do you practice ( if you know the names). I'm just interested in seeing what types of kungfu people practice and what forms they do.

I myself do a type of Shaolin Kungfu, im not sure on the complete style name.
Some forms that i practice are Tan Tui, Chen Chen Chuan, and Man Chi Hung

Im not sure if those are the correct spellings but i tried sounding them out so let me know and thanks for taking your time to read what i have to say and i hope to learn more about your kungfu styles.

            thanks for the feedback.

im really interested in chinese martial arts.

All of your styles sound very interesting, and hopefully someday i might be able to try them out, to further improve my fighting ability, and knowledge of the martial arts.

This could be a significantly long list if everybody posted all their forms. Our Bak Mei's 7 primary forms are sup gee, chat dim mui fa, fa pow, sup baat fung chung, sup baat mor kiew, kow bow toi and fu bo. Some styles have many, many form sets.

Here is my Kung-fu Sifu. You can see 2 clips of him in action at bottom of page. The 1st one is better.

You can all answer the "What".

But you have pretty poor answers to "Why".

                      Good day to ya!

My answer is i practice forms to show style, fluidity and art. Also to help me learn basic techniques and to expand my knowledge of martial arts. Each and every movement in my forms have a purpose and a usage. Forms are a great way to learn and combine many movements.

** Well, I appreciate your critique, however, if you review the initial entry to which I was responding :
" I'm just interested in seeing what types of kungfu people practice and what forms they do."

The individual requested the "what" and not the "why".

It would be nice to see posts positive and constructive, but with the exception of only a couple of forums, I know that's asking a lot.

                          ; - )

I`m of Ngo Cho Kun ( 5 ancestors fist ), in mandarin Wu Zhu Quan for several, several years now. Been invlove in this style since I was 17 yrs old. The reason I never switch to other styles is because I have a strong sense of loyalty, confidence & tradition to my style my school & most of all to my late Master Lo King Hui.

There are just so many things to learn in kung fu that basically it will take years to really be good at one style so up to this date I`m still in the learning process.

Another reason why I join a kung fu club was because since I was a kid I always wanted to be a martial artist & I beleive that I was an athletic gifted person. But at that time ( 1960`s) kung fu was not a very popular sport. Also becuase as an oversea chinese (hwa kia) I wanted to learn more about my heritage & kung fu really brought me closer to understand who I am.
