  • Breaking a Coconut with a Palm Strike

I am at a level in my iron hand training where I can break stacks of patio blocks etc. However have failed miserably at attempting to break a coconut with a palm strike.

    Can anyone advise me ?

    Thanks

ur probably tough enough to do the coconut, but the problem is that a the stone is flat and if u hit it, it does not move, but a coconut is round, if u dont hit it at just the rite spot it will shift a bit and make breaking damn near impossible, think of like stepping on a bar of soap, if u step on the end it squirts away from ya, that may be what the coconut is doin. hope that helps

Breaking stacks of "patio blocks" is not hard. I would like to see you break a naturally sundried hardened brick.

coconuts are extremely difficult to break. I can't break one so I won't profess to know how, although I do know that incredible dead-center accuracy is required.

              coconut

i have broken coconuts and yea it is not easy. The idea that the coconut is round and it will roll is part of the problem so first learn to strike it without it rolling don`t worry at first about the break just the roll. Then try to rember when you hit something flat you come in contact with more of the surface. So with that in mind CONCENTRATE on your strike and be sure all the energy is focused on just that point. My first break came only after training iron palm for 6 months a half hour everyday. It takes about 1300 pounds of preasure to break the skull. It takes 1600 pounds of preasure to break a coconut. Good Luck

I used to have to crack coconuts with a knife as prep work every now and then...even that sucked...do you smack it across the seam thing with your hand the same way?

                  coconut

in reply to the prep cook. I have broken both ways. I make sure the coconut does not have any cracks. and i go for it. i can`t say with the grain or against the grain is any better. I first seen it done against so that is what i tryed. then about a year latter i seen a guy from Ohio go with the grain. Either way.

Lacy and most other "coconut breakers" bake them for a time beforehand, so they're much easier to break. Get a heavy bag instead.

                      coconut

talking trash about someone beacause they have done what you can`t is childish. We learn at a young age that this kind of action looks bad on us. If you never seen anybody bake the coconuts then shut up and quit spreding crap. Leave that kind of menstral caddy type of talk in grade school. I have broken coconuts i don`t bake them if you are to much of a girl to work hard. don`t talk trash about the real men who have reached that goal. Hit a heavy bag please.

Whoo i just got off that link you sent it was the first time i have seen it. A whole bunch of cry babbies. Iron palm is taught in so many styles it`s not funny maybe the people that study Wing Chun or Kun tao or any other style is wasting there time at least you say. But i am sure James Lacy likes the free press.

Lacy actually is not affiliated with that particular kung fu system, he's a kenpo stylist. And considering people on those same threads researched into them and have the same experience that many of you do, I'm willing to say those who say coconut breakers bake their coconuts are telling the truth.

And I don't need to break produce to feel like a real man. If that works for you, more power to ya I understand you've been training with that style for a while and might feel like it's a slap in the face, but that's why you should always research what you're getting into.

                            Coconuts

Being a gossip does not mean you researched. It means you are spreading rumors. I break coconuts and i don`t bake them. Nobody has ever researched what i do. So to say i bake them and people have reasearched this is just a lie. and if you don`t break fine you don`t. nobody says you have anything to prove. Just quit spreading some one elses lies.

OK, maybe some people bake them. Some people use pre-broken boards when breaking boards also. If everyone baked them, then everybody would probably be able to break them.

The people I have seen break them do not bake them first. They hold them in one hand and break them with the other.
