Muay Thai - INFERIOR TO CHINESE ARTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your asking for a death wish mate.
That is Sanda/ san shou, a mix of all martial arts made by the chinese government. They lack everything CMA, MA and boxers excel in and is a post maoist propaganda sport. To me this form is a traitorous form to what I believe in- proper chinese martial arts.
As for Muay thai, well they are more proper boxers than sanda.I respect boxers since they train hard to perfect their technique. They get effective very quick but in life, they may only be effective in afew years in your youthful life.
What do you do, nothing?
Boxing is just another martial art really
how or in what way can san shou be traitorous oreanor?, I think its one of the best ever styles, punches, elbows, knees, throws, takedowns, stand up grappling, sweeps, kicks, what else is needed??-------a couple of great action pics below>>>>>
Anyone who thinks San Shou (Free sparring)isn't like Kung Fu is a flippin' idiot. As humans, we all have 2 hands and 2 feet, so there are only so many ways we can fight.
All punches, kicks, and elbows are similar in all arts (excluding internal martial arts). This is why when we see a Kung Fu guy knock somebody out, we say "He just did a right cross! That's not Kung Fu!".
When people fight with traditional Kung Fu (real kung fu fighters) it doesn't look rigid and strict like in the forms or movies, but rather shapeless or formless, with the ability to change.
The throws from San Shou also come from Shuai Chiao (or however you spell it).
alex, not sure I get what you are saying about who thinks that SS is not KF? but anyway, yes I also understand that the throws or some of them are from SC, i have heard that SC is a very vicious form of wrestling, I have not managed to find a school/club anywhere in the UK for SC though, it seems very rare as far as i can tell, shame because it would probably be great to learn.
studio, have you seen Combat Shuai Chiao?, this is a seriously cool, highly effective but vicious chinese wrestling, in fact hundreds of years ago a guy called Mr Chen Yuan-Ping apparently took Shuai-Chiao to Japan. His intimate knowledge of Shuai-Chiao's joint locks, controls, takedowns, and throws formed the basis of what became JuJutsu, which later evolved into Judo and Aikido.

Hi Hu,
I've heard that during the period that you mentioned that the matches and even 'sparring' were very serious indeed and that it was not uncommon for some serious injuries or death to occur.

actually san shou is one(if not the only one) of chinas most effective arts. sure it's mainly still sport, but so is muay thai, and those guys are incredible. it's sad though that the really only good example of a good san shou artist would be cung le. he's incredible, but i can't say how good he is as far as the street is concerned

hi Naz, I haven't heard of those cases yet but I am looking into it.
Naz, can you share some cases or stories reported/known of?
hi m.artist, yes I think Cung Le is great, i have some of his recent fights on tape, I think his scissor kicks are just impecable, I would say that it is quite likely that he would be able to transfer his conditioning & training to the street if someone picked on him, however, I dont know anything about him except for having seen some of his fights. btw, if you had to pick between MT and SS which one would you go for??

not really sure
ss, imho, is more of a complete system that encompases throws, and other things like that, while muay thai is all about strikes(that's not always a bad thing either though)
you just have to go for, what you think would work for you. i think the chance to take either would be a wonderful opportunity in anycase
cung le needs to step up to MMA or K-1 rules imo. or even thai boxing rules, where throws are allowed and scored. he is a very good san shou fighter, but lets face it he hasnt got anyone to fight. K-1 occasionally throw him some nobody who stands there confused while he gets thrown on the ground ver and over, but unless he finds a challenge he is just going to stagnate.
