  • My sifu got beat up!!!

my sifu got beat up in his own school in front of his students damn it was pitiful. last year i was studying wing chun some MT guy come over to the kwoon saying he was looking to take someting different. my sifu asked what styles he studied b4 the MT guy said he practice muay thai for ten years b4 in thailand. my sifu started dissing the MT guy and his style saying his style sucks he only has a few moves. MT guy got a little pissed off and challenged sifu to a sparring match in the kwoon. sifu shapes up into a stance like a fruitcake out of frisco, MT guy just starts tearing into him with combos. sifu tries to trap him but it just gets him up close so the MT guy starts kneeing the crap out of him with strikes to sifu's spleen, sifu's ribs, sifu's kidneys. after that the MT guy left and told us all that our kung fu sucked.

Well, there's an eye opener for ya lol. The reverse of that actually happened at the Bujinkan, a man who was a champion MT fighter and karate practitioner (in the NY area if my memory serves me right) for many years entered Shihan van Donk's dojo and challenged Shihan to a fight right there. He told Shihan if he lost, he would strip off all his belts, put on a white belt, and train under Shihan. The match started, and 10 seconds later he was on the mat. That was many years ago, he's at least a shidoshi-ho (nidan, 2nd degree black belt) by now. Interesting to see how a chance experience like that can change your whole view of the martial art you are studying in.

yah i got out of martial arts for a while since i cant find a good school around here. after that incident i thought all kungfu is fake and useless shit so i went around sampling kenpo, karate, and some other stuff but i didn't like any of those styles. im trying to find an MT gym. parking is horrible around fairtex and i don't want to take public transportation. world team usa is great and parking around there is good but they charge alot.

If your sifu dissed muay thai like you said he did it means he isn't a serious martial artist. I think he deserved that beating. Like Paul Vunak said, "Universal Respect''!

Same thing happened at my kung-fu academy except the MT guy got beaten up by my sifu. The MT guy was dissing wingchun and my sifu challened him to a spar. The fight didnt last 5 seconds, the mt guy was on the ground in no time. After he got beaten up he started respecting my Sifu and the twc style.

wow, I really feel bad for your sifu. and to Think I thought there is a possiblity to get the upperhand if your adversay is angry this just proves that pride is much of a weaker then anger. so what's going on with your acdemy now after it happened? I suppose many students are planning to leave

                  NEMESIS,

most of my old classmates in WC left him within two weeks and now take classes at either fairtex or world team usa muay thai. some of them switched to other arts like choy li fut. one of them i know told me he takes choy li fut and wing chun in fremont now under someone named shane lacey. he told me that his sifu is very, very good. my old sifu closed school and moved it somewhere else i dont know where. his name was vinh van tran. right now i want to find a good muay thai school so it looks like i'll have to take public transportation and go for fairtex.

Personally, I think experience + training > style.

If someone spars, trains, and competes hard for 20 years no matter what syle, he's going to beat the shit out of some random MT jock with 10 years experience. Unless it's grappling vs. striking.

                    Your sifu sounds very inexperienced.

                        well as sherwinc would say

"he must've have learned commericialized kung fu, because a real master would not have lost to someone who had only a few "alphebets"

Be thankful, That was the best thing that could have happened to you. I agree with the point about respect. Also it doesn't seem that your "sifu" was living on the land of reality. Not only was he not aware of his own fighting abilities he probably was in the comfort zone the rank=fighting ability. I think you should be able to challenge any instructor. However, I would not want to do so in fornt of the students and embarrass the instructor.....yours however deserved what he got
