      Karambits.

      Dear Tant01:

Your explanation: "The blade is a hook often double edged with ring for your index finger at the end of the (short) handle. There are many variations of this style blade and it is growing in popularity here in the USA" and your reference to those sites help me a lot. Thank you.

I was quite startled as it needed you from California to introduce something that originated from my own country. I have just known about (the word) "karambit" although I have in fact seen the thing mentioned.

However, I have never learned to use one. Probably our friends who study "pencak silat" (Indonesian MA) learn to use one. I am sorry for being uninformative about it. I bet you have very interesting collection of different weapons. Good luck.

        Tjang,

Your matial arts expirience sounds very intersting. What did you learn in Wushu (hand forms, weapons, multiple person forms,???)? Alao what style of Tai Chi Chuan did u learn. My Wushu class used to be held a Traditional Chen Tai Chi center. The Master (he didn't like to be called master because his was still alive, which I find respectfull) and he was good at what he did. He studied it under an 23 generation of Chen family member in the Chen Village in china, or somewhere else but im pretty sure it was the Chen village. Anyway, he studied under the 23 genration succesor since he has a child(the 12 generation Chen's developed there form of Tai Chi if i recal) one of students, before he gained a high raking, could not move the 130 pound master using all of his 230 pounds. A friend from Wushu who also studied under Yan(Tai Chi Master taught me about 15 minuets of Tai Chi and I countered all of the grabs my friends tried on me afer I told them to try and take me to the ground. My friend that did about 5 years of Jiu Jitsu(i did about three lessons with him, wierd instuctors) did take me down about half the time.

How is Java, My friends Father is from the Phillipiens (spelling sorry) and was in the military there.

i had a brief stint in traditional kung fu, quit after a few months as i realised it was a waste of time and money. not once did i see anybody spar, and rarely did we go over the use of the katas. there were higher ranked students that didnt know how half the kata was supposed to be used. very rarely did we ever use the kicking shield. most of the time it felt more like an aroebics class than anything. basically we were paying a monthy fee to punch and kick the air, with no means of learning any "real" self defense. so i said the hell with it.

your sifu reminds me of the teacher i had, thought he was a badass, spit his nonsense about how traditional kung fu was "superior" to others arts, how kung fu was a "real" means of self defense, ect. ect. also his behavior in the kwoon was real unprofessional. he would swear on occasion, i heard racial remarks, sometimes class was delayed a good 20 mins cause he felt the need to socialize on our time and money.

not saying all teachers or kung fu practicioners act this way, just giving an example of one of the many mckwoons and dojos out here.

So you put on a disguise account to insult us in this forum? You are not new to this forum I suspect as you have dug up a specific old post. You are of the JMA influence with the use of the word "kata" and I'm guessing you have come into this forum to cause trouble. Where are you from and where did you train anyway?

I have been away from the net for a while but have ventured back in the last week or so.
