Being a martial artist i still of course have many friends that do not practice any MA. Meaning they sometimes dont understand the root of it, i shouldnt fight unless i have to. They find it more fun to set me up aginst strong kids in our school. Recalling a situation at a park, me and my friends observed will asopposed boxer was taking his hockey skates off at an out door rink at a park. Just knowing that he did (Or said he did) boxing gave me an urge to test his skills. It was the same for me, he knew i knew MAs. Me and my freinds walked past him slowly and on to the rink where his brother was shooting pucks. One puck happened to go right past me. This is what instigated our fight. So any way he started provoking me saying he was a boxer and he was going to kick my ass. I said nothing but one of my friends spoke up and spouted off that i took MAs and that i would win, he charged at me and i easily side stepped him and kicked him in the back of the knee. He fell to the ground. I stood back and started walking towards my friends, they told me it wasnt over and that he needed more beating. The kid got up and started talking shit aging, we closed in on one another, he threw a wild punch but before it could connect with my lead hand i backfisted him in the face and he fell to the ground. Something came over me that made me want to just keep beating him up, and evenually my friends pulled me off of his body. As i starred down at him gasping for air and wiping blood of his face i knew something had to be changed. This is why i no longer tell of my MA experience to any one, and tell my friends not to either, i still have goting into fights, but on different circumstances. This is why we MAs should keep or MA status some what secretive.

"there are 4 types of people in this world.....
those who know and know they know, they are wise, follow them.
those who know and know not they know, they are asleep, wake them.
those who know not and know they know not, they are simple, teach them.
those who know not and know not they know not, they are fools, shun them." -unknown
hey, i liked that hwangjangwhatever. i agree, people who do martial arts should keep it a secret, and that is a good reason, probably the best one, but there are other reasons.
its better to be humble, and not talk about your strong points, because when a person talks about thier strengths they begin to get cocky. and nobody likes cocky people. i dont talk about my martial arts unless somone brings it up, and then i like to keep it short. when you start talkinga about the things that your good at, then people start to get annoyed at you, and then they leave. this is especially true when you mix guys and martial arts. if a guy is really smart, hes a nerd. if a guy is really good looking, hes a pansy. if a guy is really social, hes either a loser or gay. if a guy is really good at video games, he has no life, and if i guy is really lucky, he cheats. but then it gets to fighting ability. every guy wants to be the strongest, fastest, and overall best fighter around. and when a guy is a better fighter than you, theres no way around it. guys get really defensive over thier fighting reputations, and if a person talks about him MA's then the guys around him begin to hate him and want to beat him up or kill him because they know that the MAist is better than they are, and theres no way around it. so your friends will appreciate not talking about how good you are at beating people up.
plus, it is friggin sexy when people underestimate you, and think that your just a weak kid with no fighting ability whatsoever, and then you surprise them by defending yourself infront of everybody. the guys will worship you, and if you keep yourself modest, the girls will be all over you.

Originally posted by koto_ryuSo from what I got from this....you don't like showing off you have MA skills but wanted to test this guy's skills anyways, somehow a fight got started because a puck went past you (which seems like it would be you that started this fight as well, considering he's not going to be mad a puck went by you), you fought, kicked the crap out of him, and then this part:
....sounds like you beat the guy to death if you call it his body. Now you claim not to brag about your MA skills but it seemed like this whole situation was started and escalated due to you from my understanding.
That should keep them busy for a while.

Originally posted by Mike BrewerI don't buy the story, but not because of the detail he remembers. I think it's a load of crap becasue I can't imagine a boxer with any kind of reputation hitting the deck because of a backfist. Nor can I imagine him initiating anything with a "wild punch." If this fight happened (which is not likely), it wasn't against a boxer. What's more, the whole scenario reeks of stupidity.
Getting kicked in the head really hard (much harder than most punches) your head jolts, see the oh so beautiful purple kalaeidescope and then you kind of stumble from loss of feeling in your legs.
A while back some guy here said that he punched someone so hard that his feet flew up into the air then landed on his back. Too much arcade game physics from some of the guys here...lol

Bogus story or not, I think it is a good idea to have a closed mouth about firearms ownership and martial arts training. I only talk about these things to people I am close to and I can trust when the subject comes up, but that is very rare. A person I am very close to will pack when in bear territory even though it is illegal. No one knows it because there is absolutely no discussion. If the need arises, he feels it is better to be judged by twelve than carried by six. The same thing goes with martial arts training. If the need arises to use it, there should be a quick and ruthless attack to end hostilities with no prior warnings or discussion of technique or style. This is why the leopard is my favorite kung fu animal.
