  • Bar fight with Buk Sing Choy Li Fut jerks

My friends and I recently came from a bar in which we were accosted by men who disagreed with our opinions spoken during private conversation amongst ourselves regarding our own negative opinions about kung fu's effectiveness in actual street combat situations. At first, they were only speaking with a raised voice, becoming more belligerent as they continued. This was where one of the men claimed himself and his friends to be students of Buk Sing Choy Li Fut. It escalated to a fight between us and them. We fought and defeated them. A lady friend who was with us was able to claw one of the men's faces with her hands and sharp nails from behind while delivering knee strikes to his lower back. When they desired to press further, I whipped out my pistol and they fled from us.

I must say that those students had a fanatical devotion to their art and/or their sifu if our personal opinions elicited that type of response from them. You would think that they believed we had uttered tellings befit of a hate crime. But we did not. Neither did we slander any other fighting style in the world, just merely stating our personal views. My friends and I practice Muay Thai but we have universal respect for all arts -- we just believe that certain arts are more practical to use than others. We also believe that people ought to mind their own business. Any students here of Buk Sing Choy Li Fut in this forum? Can anyone explain this fanatical devotion the Buk Sing CLF practitioners have for their art, their sifu? All opinions welcome.

I think you would get the same reaction from any number of MA styles its not just Chot Li Fut. Ultimately, small people have small minds. However, that would have been a good opportunity to see if CHoy Li Fut had real application

Real application? It seemed to me as if the CLF fighters we encountered reverted to American style kickboxing when facing us. Add to that the long-arm and roundhouse punches of choy li fut. Their stiff and rigid stances, however, had all sorts of openings we could easily exploit. When they began to trade blows with us, it had form but little to no power. Although their roundhouse punches were fast, I was able to maneuver inside my opponent's blow and go for the clinch. One threw a backfist at me, but I charged with my elbow and broke through his strike. There were four of us and five of them. One of my friends who had also trained in boxing was able to knock one of them out with a single uppercut to the chin.

Because after knocking them down, two of them pulled out knives, and the others grabbed pool sticks and a glass bottle.

Pulling your piece was smart. I'm glad you didn't get in trouble with the Police. Is a gun permit required in that city?

Yes, a gun permit is required everywhere in California. As for the police, not to worry -- my dad is a policeman in this town.

Alright, I checked out the Buk Sing Choy Li Fut web site and read some of their history put up for all to see there. In my opinion, it seems to me as if they enjoy inflicting pain on people for seemingly inconsequential non-issues or unintentional breaches of etiquette. Yet, I have heard rumors around the Chinese martial arts circles that NOBODY wants to ever mess with the Laceys. Anyone else know anything about this?

                      Yeah,

Buk Sing Choy Lay Fut is known for it's fighting they don't spend alot of time practicing forms ,they train simply app's and techniques. There is only like three fist forms within Buk Sing Choy Lay Fut ,but they practice like thousands of techniques.

                      Yeah,

The Laceys are some bad brothers ,they're very famous for their fighting in Hong kong. I have a friend that is actually from their lineage one of the Lacey brothers is his sigung.

It also depends on where these Buk Sing ppl were from ,the ones in Oz are much better fighters than the ones in the U.S. simply because they trained differently.

A gun permit doesn't give you the right to carry a firearm in a bar. That's a felony, with or without a permit. I just hope you had the intention of using it, as flashing it to look tough will get it taken away from you by someone who will. I would think that the only thing that sucks worse than getting shot is getting shot by your own gun.

Shane Lacey seems to know how to use his kung-fu for real. He's also dabbled in muay thai so i've heard.
