If you wanted to build a training program that taught your child the foundation to carry him through his martial journey, which CMA would you choose as a base art? Now what other CMAs would you use to supplement it? And how early would you start thier training?

[" And although we may do our best to avoid trouble, sometimes trouble insists on finding us. When that happens......when the time for talk is over, warriors act. They flip the switch and act decisively - ruthlessly if necessary - to preserve and defend the things that they hold dear."
Michael D. Janiich Why being a warrior starts with accepting the limitations of peace.

My kids had it tough, ex-military dad, d.a.v. , strict diciplinarian, mom was a captain in the air force, lots of high expectations.
oh yeah, mom and dad are both blackbelts in shaolin kung-fu and kempo.
We looked around and wanted dicipline and structure, with martialarts training as an added bonus, so we signed them up at a kempo school. They actually liked it, that was seven years ago at 3 times a week 1 month off every summer. Plus privates to learn Shaolin Craine and black tiger. My son is now 15 and a blackbelt in kempo, he is very fast and effective, my daughter is now twelve and a junior blackbelt in kempo, but likes the softness of craine and is very passive in her style and approach.
They started at 8 and 5 years old, and learned to have a positive attitude, and built self esteem by accomplishing short tearm goals. I should add that both are pretty well adjusted and never had to use their martial arts training to settle schoolyard disputes. they understand what a great responsibility it is to have the kind of knowledge that they posess. And that it is to be treated with respect.
