              I do practice it.
However my concern is that in a fight, I would chose a fist. Since I use it in sparring and how it feels and how it is delivered. I never used a slap, and we can't use it in sparring.
I do wish that there was a way to test it's effectiveness.
Does anyone want to get slapped?

                        Fire hands

                        I do use slaps.
Act like your hands are on fire and your putting them out on someone else.

Many arts do not like slaps. To each their own. But one-thing everyone agrees apon (even those that dislike slapping altogether) is that one who is trying to defend himself against slaps is pretty busy being defensive. When you slap your arm is a wet rag or a rubber hose. You dont tighten up. Think of a wet towel when it hits you it hurts. If you freeze the towel it wont hurt as much anymore. The looseness allows you to move very quickly and in a circular motion that puts elbows very close to the areas you really want to attack. They also allow you to hit multiple times with each strike. A downward elbow to a backfist smack downward on the face, to knuckes, to fingers raked across the eyes. One motion but multiple strikes.

                          Hmmn

                          Food for thought i suppose...

But why not palm strike/grab-breaking the balance once forward and then twice back.

....Then: hammerfist; side strike(like back hand but w/ "the hammer"); then, if need be, double grab/(or "Full Control") and kick/knee...and repeat, if need be.

NB: the grab is to control them at a distance...not pull them on to yourself...and so setup the hammer to a hard spot (Soft hit's Hard).

                          !!??

It's kind of funny that most striking arts train punching with clenched fists so dominantly. I mean they are pretty effective, but a good fast slap in the face is devious as hell!!!

We have them, usually as a quick addition to a combination. I like the idea of using them to set up elbow strikes, I've never thought of that but the idea makes a lot of sense. I'm going to have to play with that concept.
