Bits of truth here buddy... maybe we should reformulate the phrase as such: "how GungFu can save your ass in a London's bar fight".

See where we're heading to ? Try again now.

      OK everyone,

now I'll stop it. I know I've been outrageously arrogant here.

The reason is not I have something against you or CMA. The reason is I've been through it for many years. I've been training Hung Gar, Tang Lang, Karate, traditional Wing Chun, and other Chinese and Japanese MAs.

I've noticed people delude themselves and tend to believe that traditional CMA and other traditional stuff can work in today's violent confrontations. Well they can't.

Also, they won't work against MMArtists or BJJ players.

I think you deserve to be suggested for the better. I think you deserve not to get ripped off by "sifu", "sensei", etc.etc. who promises to teach self-defense, whereby he/she isn't teaching but a TMA.

Yes, CMA sucks mud indeed if it's intended for self-defense.
It does help, however, to build reflexes, to get better coordination, even to keep in good shape. But it won't teach you how to fight.

You should see people who come from TMA as they enter our RBSD or MMA classes. They realise that 5-10 years of hard training isn't gonna help to save their ass from an aggressive BJJ player or a seasoned street brawler. That's sad. So just open your mind, before it's too late.

You're average mugger, drunk, street scum wont know BJJ or MMA. TMA work perfectly well for self defence, youve just got to know how to apply it in a real situations.

Maybe your the one who got ripped off by his sensei, sifu or whatever, if you trained in all these MA's you should be able to handle yourself pretty damn well.

There's a plenty of former TMArtists who feel they weren't taught properly to prepare for real combat.

real combat huh? with no rules or padds or refs? I have never seen an MMA guy who was prepared for the street. in fact so far MMA and the street has proved fatal to the MMA guy...HMMMM

huh...TMA's have been around a LONG time...MMA is very new...and yet MMA has produced more people who THINK they can defend themselves than the TMA's ever will

So youre assuming your opponent will be as pitifully prepared and armed for the street as you and your sport training. Keep on dreaming....

yep here we go again...in the CMA threads this time....The little sport players whined when pointed out they arent prepared for the streets...it makes them feel "uncool" when you point out that a double leg takedown on a guy with a knife is suicide. In fact it bothered them SO much they want a self defense for the street forum!! Thats so they can discuss their sport without realities of the street like weapons, multiple opponents and oh yeah the street itself...

I will grant that a college wrestler is beter prepared for the street than a pure Taiji guy jubaji....now are you gonna admit a firearm trained, fma trained taiji guy is better for the street than your college wrestler?

If you note, since it was admitted that MMA is a sport with rules, i have stayed out of the sport threads...After all, Im not "double leg takedown proof" and you aint bulletproof

That's what I've been thinking since this thread got started. Bratjam is just spouting the same tired bullshit that every prepubescent jack-ass starts parroting when they become infatuated with MMA.

I already told you dumbasses the evidence is real encounters with TMartists -- the latter being beaten up by us MMartists

You're free to do as you haven't read it, but in that case, you are choosing to cowardly deny reality.

Thats easy, todays "fighters" have cool shirts, funny hair colors and cuts and lots of rules and refs to make sure they are the best streetfighters in the history of the world. They practice submitting each other one on one in padded rings without weapons...and KNOW it prepares them for armed multiple opponents who dont train sports with rules

there have been some VERY enlightening MMA thoughts on self defense on this forum...when confronted with a knife...run get in your car and run over the attacker ....and the ever important dont punch out car windows in a road rage while wearing ring gear...

No doubt sport fighters make the best fair fighters on the planet... however the streets aint fair...i can be oblivous to the rules of the ring without endangering my life...you cant say the same about the street.

do you consider yourself a sport player or a martial artist?

I practice several non chinese arts as well as firearms...I am still a martial artist because i train for war...thats what martial means...The MMA guys misnamed their sport...Its about everything except war

Martial arts is the study of martial combat, it is neither system nor form nor style nor expression. In its essence, we learn martial arts to study combat, techniques that are efficient and tactics which people in the past have employed and proven effective. When one blames martial arts being ineffective, they must reflect on themselves, for it is not the study of combat that is the problem but themselves. Like my master says "If you get beaten up in the street, it is not the art that's the problem but it is yourself thats the problem". People often blame others for their failures but do not reflect why they actually failed.

I see that you have studied a fair few arts but you have not mastered any one of them even if it is one that is perceived as a poor art.Like my friend tells me "a PhD in toilet cleaning will bring me closer to being a medical surgeon than just several certificates in medical science." This may not make sense but when you really look into this quote you can draw parallels to it.

In summary (no offence mr bartjarm) you have shown us that you are not a good martial artist and that you have not mastered anyone of them. Even Bruce Lee did not say that particular art was bad but the art just had to suit his style of thinking and mastered his own way of thinking(JKD).
