  • people who do this all the time

There are people, and by people I mean 15 to 20-somethings who train and stuff day in and day out. How do you get into this kind of a lifestyle when you are in high school/college as these young people must be?

I recently saw something on the discovery channel called "xtreem martial arts". It was a few young kids who just do this all the time and it documented thier training and competition. They basically just did "karate," and they basically just did katas and then did forms/point sparring competition. It seems like a bunch of relatively neive young people practicing in a terrably unpractical fashion. Regardless, they got to train and practice daily for long hours, this is a lifestyle. I would enjoy this, though in a different manner. IS this possable in any way? How do these kids do it?

    P.S.
These kids seem to be deticating so much to this stuff, I wonder if they plan to just do katas forever and then teach katas? I guess I can never knock on it, it is valid in its own traditional way, but I just think it is unpractical and lame.

extreme martial arts itself is a combination of acrobatics, gymnastics and karate/tae kwon doe (not 100% about this), there is not suppose to be practicality in this form of martial arts. XMA does not consider self-defence their 1st priority, instead they are exibitionists who do exclusively flashy, atheltic moves in forms and patterns. It's almost like figure skating and the floor exercise in gymnastics, b/c they r given scores for their "routine" so to speak.

The point fighting as u can prob. tell is very pathetic. It's not entirely their fault though b/c they train to entertain and not to fight.

Also, these kids will prob. be future teachers or instructors as u mentioned, but a lot of them also enter the entertainment industry as stunt doubles or land minor acting roles in which they get beaten up by the main char. If u look at some movies, the guys that get flipped, jump up in the air and twist to the ground, guys that get punched and then fly through the glass windows, these r the XMA kids.

I'd really like to know how to get into an MA lifestyle. I hardly have time to go to the gym at age 15, I don't know wether I'll have more time in university but I'd like to know how the hell do they study/go out/Train so much.

        Fitness...mainly

...a lot of people just like to stay active and therefore keep the body beautiful. They find the martial art's is more productive than just going to a Gym. Of course, boxing and Mhuay(?!) Thai(?!){whatever} offer more extreme body sculpting regime's.

But, of course, you get your career Junkie's and /or Criminal's.

And then there are the people who just wanna beat up on their old man!(or their stepdad....)
