[" And although we may do our best to avoid trouble, sometimes trouble insists on finding us. When that happens......when the time for talk is over, warriors act. They flip the switch and act decisively - ruthlessly if necessary - to preserve and defend the things that they hold dear." Michael D. Janiich Why being a warrior starts with accepting the limitations of peace.
If that guy came at you with a flurry of tiger claw strikes, your face would be covered in bandages. Not to change the thread or beat a dead horse, After watching the speed and fluidity of the hand and footwork, I still shake my head in disbelief that people doubt the effectiveness of forms.
Thanks for the great clips BoarSpear. I'm still practicing that FaJin punch, and getting a little better at it.

maybe because hollywood has made people think shaolin is fake and romantisized, also i find people think forms/katas are stupid because they think the person performing the form actually fights in set positions, and follows set patterns during a fight and they dont realise forms are for training and making the body and mind harder/faster/disciplined/stronger/flexible/stable etc,
i have a pretty good rule that i follow and teach to people, if you want to learn shaolin start with horse stance only, practise every day untill you can hold horse stance for 10 mins at a time, move onto "hugging tree" stance untill you can do that for 10 mins also, then once both stances are partially "mastered" you can move onto something a little more fun.
nice form, boar i have some really nice shaolin forms on mp3, could i send them to you so you can post them?, or teach me how to post video things up on here please?,
and yeah goodluck with the explosive power training shaoling warrior,
if you wouldent mind taking advise from a younger student, i am currently teaching my little cousin explosive power and fajin striking, i was explaining it to him in various ways, like imagine your hand is about to run away and you have to catch it quickly, dont think about it just act off reaction, as if somethign just happend like a spider jumped on your hand and you quickly flick it off making a fist, or imagine something just electricuted you in the waist suddenly, and it jolts you forward from lower body all the way up your torso then through your arm and into your fist, making you close your hand and "thrust" your arm forward snapping back as you gain control of your body
after the strike has been performed. i think the best way to perform fajin is to just not think about it and just go off reaction, just relax. also try doing it without closing the fist atall just keeping an open hand, because fajin isnt exactly like an explosive 1 inch punch the 1 inch punch i personally think, has alot to do with a snap of the wrist when making the fist before the actual pull back, more of a snap punching action mixed with explosive body power and movement, but fajin dosent have to be closed handed atall, you can perform slaps, kicks, elbows palm strikes etc,
you probably knew all of this already but just wanted to help a little with simple ways to help you that i found helpfull,
and im realy sorry to pick at things, but i feel that his tiger form was sloppy, the handwork was good, but the footwork, the tiger walks with power, every step should root the floor, every time striking the footwork should be firm and solid, i felt his was not very powerfull, giving the impression his blows are not as effective as they should be,
i was feeling the speed and fluidity, but i was not feeling the tigers powerful stride, sorry again to knitpick, but i practise tiger chuan, and the footwork is more i dont know how to put it errm solid. zhang zhuang is needed,
he has lifted the sky and carried the mountains, but has he hugged the tree and rode the horse?, some people wont get that fully but maybe a couple will.
hehe i'm sorry for my ignorance but i found that clip really funny. It look like what most kids do around the garden after watchin 3 ninjas strike back.
pretty scary to think some of you actually find this clip of good quality?
This guy shows no understanding of any of the underlying principles found in traditional chinese arts let alone any concept of other fighting arts.
The footwork is, well, there isn't any. The 'strikes' would not penetrate plywood and he demonstrates no method of generating power. as for rooting? posture?, etc....
This is the type of guy who gives chinese martial arts a bad name.
Sorry to be down about this as I know CMA needs as much support as it can get at the moment but this guy just ain't for real.
i find it interesting how many people dis GM peppers because they think White tiger is a tiger claw system...TIGER is an EXTERNAL style...WHITE TIGER is NOT an external style. Thats a clip from 1975 long before he was a GM and head of the style...i expected most of you to be lost as to what you were looking at...you didnt disapoint me
