  • San Shou

I have heard this is a very powerful style of kung fu. Is it common in the U.S. yet?

Are there any places to take it in New Jersey?

SAN SHOU IS NOT A STYLE OF KUNG FU. SAN SHOU IS KUNG FU COMPETITION, COMBINING KUNG FU STYLES AND BATTLING IT OUT WITH OTHER PRACTICIONERS, IT IS NOT A "STYLE" IN ITSELF.

In the real days it was done with no gloves, no nothing, and it was on a raised wooden platform. I'm not sure what the rules are EXACTLY but there is no ground fighting, though throws and trips and takedowns are very common and often spectacular. There are some styles on chinese grappling, and in good-old San Shou, we can see them mixed in with other styles and combined with striking or used against striking, which is very exciting.

i agree than san shou is technically not a stlye translating to "freefight" but a style has evolved from it on the same way as JKD.
It looks alot like Muay Thai but with some cool throws/takedowns.

It looks like MT when they have gloves on. Without gloves/headgear/shinpads/mouthpieces/padded ground, it looks like TCMA and its beautiful.

Any San Shou places in New Jersey?

People rant on about MT but I've also always been very intrigued with the Chinese martial arts.

Dude for the last time, MT is superior to TKD in everyway imagineable! Wake up and smell the coffee.

San Shou is the Chinese response to Muay Thai. It's basically MT watered down with side kicks. In fact, the first San Shou team was coached by MT greats.

Get a grip... It's okay that TKD sucks.

for fucks sake, why say that? all youre gonna do is turn this thread in to another long "is TKD effective" arguement. This forum is becoming shit because thats what every thread turns into and its BORING! just keep your arrogant/ignorant opinions to yourself in future!

TKD189 please ignore pstevens statement. you'll never change his mind so just rise above it and lets keep on the topic.
