Well, you should start by seeing what kind of martial art options are within reasonable driving distance from your home. Maybe look into the different styles and decide what you would most enjoy, and try out classes, most places let you watch/participate in one for free.
Well, pretty much anything is suitible. It depends on what you want from martial arts. Do you want to llearn to defend yourself from a rapist? Do you want to learn to punch/kick or to grapple with people (both?)? Also, what kinds of martial arts are availible to you? Look around, tell us what is around you and we will help you pick the one that is right for you.
As far as clothing, it variets from different establishments and martial arts. First day, show up with some swear pants and a T-shirt, thats good enough to try out a class.
Agreed with dan, look around your area 1st and tell us what is available. Or you can try every one of em and get into the one you enjoy the most like bartjam said
well i suggest you take Jeet Kune Do if there is a school near you. JKD schools are very scarce but if you have the opportunity to train at one, i think you should go 4 it. i take JKD and love it. its a well rounded martial art. there are no katas or any of that stuff that wont even work in a real fight. JKD has skills for far range (high powered kicking) middle range (kicking and punching) close range (elbowing, and kneeing) grappling (Jiu jitsu) weapons(Kali, Escrima, Arnis) self defense (Hapkido)............... as you can probably see, theres no weakness in a JKD fighter. they can defend against anything and everything.
hi. im a 13yr old gal interested in martial arts...
can any one out there give me some advice?
Since your in a chinese martial arts forum, I suggest chinese martial arts and nothing else. For a girl, i suggest Wing Chun(not ving/weng tsun/chung etc. or any of that BS) since it was developed by a female.

you still have time to be a world champion muay thai fighter...wait two years and you'll be too old. Start training now, and you might reach the top when you're 18...which is perfect. Do it. Muay Thai is much cooler than all of these other sports and MA's...sure JKD covers all ranges, and Kali is better suited for self defense...and you need grappling...but to be a female kickboxing champ...c'mon!
