It was a SPARRING match. Like somebody said, that monk was in postion several times, but didn't pull the trigger out of the fact that it was SPARRING. He could have sweeped his plant leg after the TKD's first major attack, and I doubt he was trying to land a kick to the other guy's face. Bring up the best Muay Thai fighter against the best Shaolin Monk, and we'll see who wins. I'd love that scenerio

I myself do Muay Thai but I hate when people always have to compare Muay Thai to all fighting styles. Martial Arts are different from each other and that what make them unique. Anyways that was a great clip I really enjoyed it and it was cool. Speed is just as important as power.

What is the point of being strong if you too slow to hit?
What is the point of hitting fast if your opponent don't feel anything?

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I wasn't trying to insult or compare. He insulted the Shaolin monks by saying they wasted years doing acrobatics. That's rediculous, those monks are amazing. But, they're very mysterious, so there's not much grounds on an argument here.........

It makes you rely on speed and there is something to be said about 4 or 5 years of learning to effectively block an attack. I'm a little guy and considerably fast for my age, I ve been in a couple of scraps and I'm a firm believer that speed is better than power. It's most likely because of my size or lack of it that this is my opinion, but we should all train to our strengths.
Thanks for the clip it was great.
What nonsense. Of course it is good not to be hit, but these guys cannot hit anything neither! WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THEY COME UP AGAINST AN AVERAGE WESTERN BOXER WHO, BELEIEVE ME, WILL BE ABLE TO HIT THEM!

Its like watching two gunmen who cannot hit anything they aim at, yet they look fancy so you say "see how effective they are, they haven't been hit".

Tameo, I have been in a great many fights. I hit, and I got hit. But I do admit that I cannot leap about like a cartoon Jackie Chan.

By the way, you still haven't apologised to me for telling us all how great Cheungy is, and then totally changing your mind......

I don't understand ya mate. These "fast" guys didn't hit each other neither.

like he said before it was a SPARRING match, the monk could have quite easily hit the TKD fighter but didn't because it was a SPARRING match, basically comparing skills with one another, he didn't want to kill the TKD fighter, he didn't want to hurt him, so whats the point? its SPARRING!

Seriously Thai, watch the movie closely. The monk had so many chances to nail him.

Neither of those guys managed to hit the other with anything meaningful at all. They jumped about, missing wildly. Just because the Monk looked cool, it doesn't mean that he was missing on purpose. If all three people had been dressed the same it would have been hard to tell which one was the ref for goodness sake!

That clip summed up just how many years can be wasted learning acrobatics and posing instead of fighting. And I'm more than a little disappointed that some people think that the clip was "awesome".

Shoot, you're right. Post your video so we can see how it's done

I cant help feeling thats why it would make an interesting match, muay thai against shaolin. Not quite at the extremes, muay thai can be quick and shaolin should be able to hit hard, but would still be interesting.

If you are "sparring" and don't want to hrt your opponent, then you hit him softly...... You take all those "chances" that you lot seem to think he had, and hit him softly.....

You don't fling yourself about like an acrobat but miss wildly......

Actually I do like to think I have accomplished a few things with my training. But I do fight training, not sports, not semi contact and not acrobatics. But the people I've thrown strikes at fell down......

looks like an easy match to me.

Monk keeps his hands in the target zone. TKD guy too stupid to punch or even set up combinations. Both fight out of range of eachother, Monk doesn't take much damage because the kicks are full power to his arms. both spend more time evading than fighting.

                            yup draw.

I'm gonna have to agree with Thai Bri on all points of his arguement.

My question is - where does the tape originate from. If its from mainland China - then of course the monk will win. It doesn't take a master to figure that one out. If the monks were so good at fighting - then why doesn't China send there best SanDA/San Shou fighters to train with the monks.

Now before people start saying "well the monk wasn't trying at all" and all that great nonsense - I understand that the monks aren't solely there to train to fight. But they should understand the foundamentals of fighting. Put a monk against and San Da fighter and we all know who will win. Now if we talk about forms - of course the monk will win.

Anyone who has done any real sparring or fighting will know that any jump techniques are very dangerous. Spinning and turning your back to your opponent is one thing but to spin and jump - c'mon now. Throwing high risk moves are great if it can be implemented but thats what they are "high risk" and if one is smart (in a full-contact environment) - one will limit their high risk attacks.

If I saw someone do that in the ring - it only says 1 of 2 things: (1) they don't know what they are doing or (2) the fight or sparring match doesn't allow full contact. Let the devote followers FLAME ON!

Perhaps you and bri have a point At no time did the monk Butt scoot (royler style) across the ring and chase the TKD guy around, so without that obvious proof of superior ring skills how are we to judge? shit if the monks couldnt even figure out butt scooting they clearly havent done as much research on fighting as the Gracies and shouldnt be taken seriously.
