Hey guys in this video does anyone know the style of fighting in the guy in red(Chin Siu Ho)? In the beginning his stance looks vaguely familar but im not quite sure what it is but I have seen it somewhere before. I am quite certain he uses Wing Chun toward the end but thats about it. Im gonna guess and say its shaolin Kung Fu? Im not really sure. And for the people who criticize CMA and are reading this thread, I know that fight is staged, im not saying CMA is better or worse then other martial arts, I just am interested to know what style of fighting it is.

It's crap fu, a Jet Li specialty, it was invented by choreographers in some secret sound stage.

Yes, it is a good movie, one of my favs.(I would like to see his newest movie Fearless. Though sadly it will be his last Martial Arts Movie.) But yeah, I agree with Boar on this one.

I love Fist of Legend. My favorite martial arts movie ever. I think the guy in red is doing a cat stance...honestly I have no clue.

He wasn't talking about Jet Li. He was talking about the guy in the red shirt.

But yeah, you are right that it is just a made up style.

Boo thats not a real CMA style? After looking at that video though a lot of his punches looked like some variation of the Wing Chun vertical punch anyway especially in the beginning, im pretty sure his kicks werent at all though but I guess thats was part of "crap fu" lol.

Anyway thanks for the replies. The guy in red is actually a martial artist irl I thought he's a famous chinese actor as well? Not too sure. Anyway, does anyone have an idea what Chin Siu Ho studied in terms of martial arts?

If by martial artist you mean Wushu practioner, then yes, chances ar ehe is a martial artist.

                Meph,
Boar wasn't refering to Jet li. He meant the entire fight scene was crap fu. A speciality of jet li. not the "style" jet li was doing.

Yeah I get it now. To be fair to Jet, all martial arts movies have crap fu. All choreographed martial arts are crap fu as least partially.

But it is not Jet Li's choice to use wireworks, but rather the studios that wants to target specific audiences. The truth is, without wirework, Jet Li would never be as popular today in Hong Kong because wirework films in the 90s were incredibly popular in China. All this biggest box office hits were wire filled movies.

From the movie the style is from Jing Wu School, where this school studies alto of different styles including the Hua Fist. This movie is more entertaining than that one of Bruce Lee's fist of Fury but then again it is Jet Li with wires and techniques that would get him beaten up in real life.

                              What CMA is it?

It's movie-fu. A few thousand dollars worth of video cameras, some wires, and descent cinematography and you too can be invincible.
