Its sad to see just how Fukked up Taiji is today because of the damage the one mistake of translating "press" as "push" did...thats what happens when Scholars who don't practice an art write as though they're authorities on subjects they have little experience or knowledge of.
Is that rampant in the Chinese medicines and Chinese arts?
Also, is it just bad translation that causes this?
Whenever non martial artist try to translate a Martial artists thoughts they tend to screw up the thought process that was included in the message because their understanding and experiences have no common ground with the men who wrote them. The internal arts have been shredded by "know its alls" who don't know shit but are more eloquent in their ability to hide behind words. Press was translated as push because some scholar thought people would understand better, problem is people now push when they should be pressing BIG freakin' difference in pressing a vital point and pushing it. This alone destroyed timing as well as the understanding of the way the power was generated and transmitted, that's disastrous to a martial art.
The best man for the job would be both a black sash in an accredited lineage and a solid translator?

I thought that was the case with translations in general.
I saw this posted yesterday and was amazed that nobody had said what a crock it was. You see vids like this all the time, but I have yet to actually meet anyone that wasn't a student of the "master" that ever experienced it.
My Sifu can knock you on your ass and it feels like a freight train hit you, but I've never flown through the air, or experinced his "chi". Nor has he ever claimed he could do it, or that he has ever met anyone that could.
Very sad, and sad that unexpecting people beleive it.
Those were pushes. Not hits. I experienced pushes myself when my teacher pushed me using is fist. I didn't fly, I was just pushed backwards a great deal. That's why I say these look real to me. Fa Jin hits are something else, they would break you.
