besides that just wanted to add you can also hit with your forearm and your shoulder. i think ttescrima brought up the 4 attacks in one motion kind of thing. hitting with a fist then rolling it and hitting with the forearm and the elbow and stuff with one punching motion or step can do a lot of damage, be just as quick, and can help you get around someone else blocking the initial punch. it also lets you build momentum if you can roll it in a tight circle right into the next attack and step.

what i'm explaining isn't necessarily traditional or classic kung fu but if you combine some of what ghost is saying and some of what kotf and tt are saying you are on to what seems like some pretty beasty stuff.

sorry if i'm wrong here and wasting your time guys just thought i'd add my two cents heh
Not a waste of time and good observation. You basically described a lot of what combatives encompass.

Also the principle from Shoalin that form the shoulder to the finger tips is considered the "fist".

But that is not reality. People who win fights win because of one of two things: Murderous, animal intent with no fear of pain, or because of lots and lots of hard work against resisting opponents, combined with a healthy amount of athleticism.

It's only in movies like "karate kid" where Daniel-san actually wins the fight. We all know that in reality, "johnny" (the bully) wins almost every time.

To stop that from happening, you train hard, the same way the bully does. You don't do wushu. Unless you just want to dance (or Larp).

and what does ........... mean? Is he copying you? Is that what that means?

KOTF, I know you hate MMA guys. That much is plainly obvious, but let me tell you something...if you saw me walking down the street, you would assume that I was one of your larping wushu guys. In fact, I used to be, until I saw the light (or grew up, however you want to phrase it).

Yes you are so grown up. That's why you and your pal jubs have to bump old threads after jubby got made the fool and you want to try to bury the proof.

You can't seem to stay on topic and you want to say that brute force beats intelligence everyday.

That's real maturity repeating lies about someone over and over, hoping if you scream loud enough you can drown out the truth of your ineptitude.

Calling names and ridiculing people is the only defense you know, it's obvious both of you know nothing of fighting or even sport. You both have no sportsmanship and instead of admitting you are groping around in the dark blindly and you have no clue you troll and flame anyone who doesn't immediately bow down and agree with you.

        Real mature.

Keep at it boys, deny your own insecurities by saying other people are, attempt to drown out the real information with your screams and name calling. it's obvious you are both sad human beings.

        Bye bye now.

My best friend in high school was the school's champinship wrestler. He was not a huge guy, but he won every fight he was in, and I am not talking about on the mats, but in real life. The guy was an honest to god sick maniac, who could put any of the guys in the movie Jackass to shame with his antics. he was incapable of feeling pain, it seemed. I would go to parties and watch him and his friends trounce everyone that they came across them, including the big, football players. it was WRESTLING that did that, not some larping kung fu.

I was the one that was into the larping stuff, thinking I was able to defend myself because I had a few years of TKD under my belt (and yes, I also took Kung Fu) but guess what? I learned more in two weeks of working with a personal trainer who does MMA then I did the entire time I was taking martial arts. Within a week I was learning to choke someone out, and learning to get out from someone on top of me beating my face in. Vastly better then just punching air or practicing forms or kata. Vastly better for self-defense or combatives (that you love so much). Your bias towards MMA and sports martial arts is truly sad and pathetic. When are you larpers going to realize that any art where you are not "imagining" will be totally superior?

Sorry, as much as Jubaji can be annoying sometimes, he happens to be right about THIS.

Plus, I think he is one of the funniest posters on the internet.

You need to get a better sense of humor about things.

Don't hurt yourself. Be honest, a lot of kungfu folks seem to feel threatened by the popularity of MMA-type stuff. They feel like they've had their noses rubbed in the "well prove it then!" that MMA folks take as a credo. Reasonable kungfu folks know how silly "I can't, it's too deadly," sounds. San Shou is a great response to all this but many kungfu folks don't have it in them to really put it to a test. Which is fine but it can still be a shot to the pride, especially for younger kungfu folks.

Some folks highly value the culture and tradition involved in studying kungfu, and the MMA-type attitude can seem like a slap to that part of training.

I don't really think kungfu folks need to see MMA-type stuff as an adversary the way so many seem to. If you don't want to compete, don't. Just don't try to spin some fantastic excuse why you 'can't.' If you honestly feel like you are a deadly killing machine but haven't and won't demonstrate that you are, keep it to yourself. That argument goes nowhere and only guarantees pointless, endless arguments. Kungfu is more than good enough to stand on its own merits without spin, excuses, or fantasies. I really think that many folks who feel like they are holding up the banner of kungfu against a hostile world do more harm than good to the image of kungfu in the eyes of most people. I know folks who train in kungfu who can and have really put it to the test, both in competition and out in the streets. They seem satisfied with what they do and there's no reason why everyone else can't be. I don't like to see people debase kungfu by getting it all mixed up in their own ego problems and/or overactive imaginations.

                Some pretty good points there.

You're kidding, right? Coming from you (and your ilk) that is really rich. You can't be so dim that you fail to see the stark hypocrisy in those statements.
