So if you two are going to fight, what type of rules are we talking about or will it be a free for all, so to speak.

Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves. Albert Einstein
When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder a second seems like an hour. That's relativity.

i completely agree.
CMA has gotten a bad rap due to people wanting to make money. everyone know can be called sifu these days. after all...there are no regulations. there is no sifu academy. i can learn a few things. call myself sifu. get some gwailo to learn from me because they are intrigued by the mysticism of chinese culture (imagine some hippies doing tai chi and thinking they are spiritual).
then these gwailo who learned from a horrible chinese sifu try to teach others and the cycle continues.
eventually you end up with this:

prior to the age of the gun where KF was a means of power, if you called yourself sifu you'd get your butt kicked quickly as you would be challenged
btw, how did you embed the video

"If you want to learn to fight, you learn from a fighter!"
Too many masters have never fought themselves, but are quick to try and teach you how to fight. My sifu grew up In a family where his grandfather taught him Hung Gar and his uncle was a Choy Lay Fut master. Yet when he was old enough he chose to learn Black Tiger from Grandmaster Wong Cheung, why?
Sifu says openly I wanted to learn kung fu for one reason to FIGHT! So I sought out someone that had used their kung fu in actual fighting to learn from. If you know anything about Chinese culture... you know that's very disrespectful to just go outside the family like that. But it's also the difference in his ability to perform forms and fight.

This video was pathetic, sad to say for the so called Kung Fu men. I have seen better sparring in juniour levels.
They have no stances hardly, they rarely kick when close enough, and they do not press in and lock the joints etc. They both do the fatal flaw of attacking at the same time and seeing who hits first. This is a wrong attacking method.
When I teach my students to fight i teach them to fight in form. I know that in a real combat situation it is not easy to saty in stances and use techniques that flow from one to the other. But it can be done.
When I was sparing thge mantis master a while ago. I always use stances and form, It is just the way i have ben taught and practiced. It looks very different than what you see in that video. It looks a bit like a fight scene from a good kung fu movie ( I know some will atack me for that). But that is just the best description I can give of it. I know that many , many ,many who practice kung fu do not fight this way, unfortunately. But i can only speak from personal experience that this is how I fight. I had a man attack me once and i took my stance snap a side kick to his groin, took my left mantis claw and form right to left stepped in locking his hand and attacked in a bow stance the back of his head with the right hand. he bent over and I attacked his spine. I did not want to really hurt him and he gave up after that. But stances and form worked great.
To me, if anyone is learning Kung Fu and doesn't think they can fight like that, then they should not be studing it.

I agree that the video was not the best, but for you to say something like that is wrong. And for you to claim that you did this and that is so full of it TigerClown. I have a question. Have you ever lost a fight? Or do you run away every time a fight happens.

since when is one instance proof of anything?
people lose all composure when they have no experience fighting. im sure these sifus have had no experience fighting.
logically...why would kf be reduced to flailing arms while other arts are not?
does not make sense.

You don't find such videos concerning BJJ, boxing or muay thai... except blatant attempts to discredit them.

Yes, people lose composure when they don't know how to fight. Therefore, these 2 so-called masters of kung-fu shouldn't be teaching anyone, since they can't compose themselves in a sanctioned fight. How will they be able to react in a REAL fight? How do they expect their students to react?
Logically, if you couldn't connect the fact that form is function, then you need to think harder. In kung-fu, form is not always function.

Because you don't see MT guys flail their arms in the ring. Because you don't see BJJ guys flail their arms in the ring. And because you don't see MMA guys flail their arms in the octagon. Rather, people from these disciplines train what they're going to do and they go out and do it. Kung-fu people tend to train one way and then act another when faced with reality. Here's living proof!
(when was the last time you seen a kung fu guy who takes kung fu at a POS studio next to your local Ralphs be in as good physical condition as a boxer?)
i dont disagree with you that there are KF people that train a certain way, a wrong way, an ineffective way. its a result of anyone calling themselves a sifu and wanting to make money first and produce great results last
however, there are KF schools that train to fight, train properly and train hard too. like they used to. there are KF schools that place a high importance on physical conditioning. like they used to. you think MT guys are the only ones who take physical conditioning to the extreme?
this an issue of poor quality sifus, who were also victims of bad sifus, with over inflated egos and no competition or challenge to give them a reality check. this is not an issue with the actual art itself.

I am sure many of us would love to see your level of expertise.
i was also watching a wonderful kung fu movie tonight, "Ip Man", it is called, about the famous Wing Chun Kung Fu master. Very good movie.
There are some every strong aspects to Wing Chun and very agressive combat style. But it all depends on the man who practices and his ability and desire etc.

I have had men who are physically stronger attack me and with very strong agressive force, and I chose to defend with a soft style such as snake style and it was very effective and little effort needed or physical strength. Technique and speed can win many fights before shere strength and physical conditioning. But I do agree that to be in good physical shape is good for all martial artist.
